networkn: I have to say that I have had contracts with VF since BellSouth days, I've only been without contracts for 3 months in all that time, and VF have been awesome with switching plans for me over that time. I've never paid a ETF in all that time, but then loyalty works in both directions. It would take a fair amount to make me switch from VF, about the only thing would be if the reception was poor.

Agreed about loyalty. I have been with Voda mobile for 10years now. Maybe that's why they offered this deal. (Good luck Kiwitrc with your 11connections).

On par with loyalty, I would say reception, speed, and customer service. Especially the latter. Big deal for me.

I was a BellSouth customer and was part of the very first group of Vodafone resellers. They clearly didn't put me through to anyone on the retention team but there was no deal for me and a combination of hassles I had last year (sorted nicely, thanks to a certain person on these forums, but nevertheless remembered) and the end of the 1GB data I had with them, the abrupt "no, can't do anything for you" I got was enough to see me leave. So, they lost my account plus another 10-year-old account. Shame really.

Elpie: That's really nice for you - well done!

We had two accounts on that plan and had the 1Gb data expiring on 20th June. When I called Vodafone the answer was an unequivocal NO with nothing being offered to keep us. So, two accounts moved to 2Degrees. Due to SMS issues, I regret the move but Vodafone wasn't interested in keeping me so be it.

Let me guess... You have ported your 021 number to 2degrees? Don't. The SMS/porting issue is rife! Get a shiny new 022 number and don't turn back :)

Yep, did this and yep, discovered this too. Mistake indeed but I can't afford to lose my number.

I wouldn't say you've made any mistake at all.  I have an 021 number that I've had since 1998 and it works perfectly on 2D with no SMS issues.

Congrats on the good deal. Never needed to try and play one company against the other as my needs have been met time and time again by low value prepay plans.

Bad luck that they didn't transfer you to the retention team. It makes a world of a difference (as they have the power to custom make plans)

Spong:
2Degrees have just extended their 1GB national bonus data to existing customers on the $39 plan or higher to two years, and we didn't even ask for it.

Really? Hasn't happened to me yet.

They sent me an email on my bill rollover date - perhaps wait until your next rollover date and see if you get the email

Good on you, while value is one thing many people consider (rather than just the price paid) the number of times I have to deal with signal issues is enough reason for me to move on after 10+ years on voda.

Just waiting for my contract to lapse - it is just a matter of time

And in places like Palmerston North moving around town drops you back and forth between 2Degrees and Vodafone. So, I haven't really left them ;)

Does it drop your calls? Sounds painful!

How could someone not currently with Vodafone get this deal?
We dont get terribly good signal for 2deg at my house, and paying weekly with Skinny is getting quite annoying and inconvenient at times.

Call them and ask...

If you're currently a customer on another network.... 'they-want-you'
If you're currently a customer on their network..... 'they-want-to-keep-you' (but sometimes it's harder for you to get them to understand that. Guess there's a lot of folk who cry 'Wolf'.)

As Paul Brislen said "..Telcos are coin operated."
