I think I got caught up in this upgrade tonight :( tried to use my phone (in Birkenhead) in a place I've used it dozens of times before with the same handset and a good signal. Usually I have 0 issues, tonight I kept getting "network busy" and the call quality was very poor. After trying several calls and getting nowhere my phone rang and it was my wife saying it was the third time she'd tried calling me before she could get through. The call quality was garbled and she could barely hear me properly.
After talking to her I called Vodafone but they said no one had reported a fault on the entire North Shore tonight.
So...was any work being done between 20:30-21:30 around the Birkenhead area tonight? I get the impression it may have been, but I guess only John would know?

freitasm: I'm guessing it is Johnsonville or Newlands? Vodafone used to have great coverage and speeds here until a few years ago. They have moved/repositioned panels and things went down pretty quickly. I complained, JohnR looked at it, but never got things "fixed". Number portability came on so I moved on to another network.

I had absolutely TERRIBLE coverage almost everywhere I went in Auckland. I couldn't use my phone at home (Mairangi Bay, at the time), at my partners parents place in Torbay had no coverage at all (except outside) and coverage at my office at the time Wyndham St, CBD) was patchy.

When I left my job, I got my number out of the corporate plan and ported to another carrier - instantly fixed my coverage problems, handset battery life increased dramatically and data usage seemignly reduced by about 50% (with no change in usage patterns).

nicks: Have Vodafone said whether they plan to do the same across other cities? I have awful Vodafone 3G coverage at home (Wellington northern suburbs), but 2G coverage from the same site (just around the crest of a hill) is great, so 3G on 900MHZ would probably work (and would save me having to buy a femtocell).

Churton Park, where the houses double back and sit below Ohariu Road/Ohariu Valley Road. We have a direct view of the Telecom cellsite at the top of Westchester Drive and good coverage from the 2degrees site on Abilene Cres, but the Vodafone site further along Abilene Cres is blocked by the hill.

This thread is about U900 going live for Auckland not RBI

But 'franklin' IS Auckland now?

Or are we only talking the 'city of Auckland'?

Where you are located is already U900 as shown on the Vodafone coverage map, Thread is not about providing new coverage but excisting where only U2100 was

Fair play, but the 900 signal I get isn't (yet?) 3G... Even when I'm on 4 bars( does it scale with distance?) so should I have rather asked,

Will all the Auckland 'region' towers on 900 (Soonish) be phased into providing a 3G signal?
