ajobbins: But in my own experience, Telecom '3G' has almost always been far better than Vodafone '3G'. Even at Christmas last year when I was back in NZ, we had one of our phones on Telecom and one on Vodafone, and the Vodafone had so many coverage and 3G speed issues while the Telecom was rock solid and always fast.

A while back I would have agreed with you but unfortunately Telecom 3G has slowed to a crawl since then :(

macuser: And technically HSPA+ is 4G according to the ITU, who decide the standards

I did wonder if perhaps what the Telecom rep was trying to explain to that person was along the lines of HSPA+ being called '4G' in some places. In the US, HSPA+ is considered '4G' (Ie. T-Mobile new '4G HSPA+' network).

I think that person has probably misunderstood some stuff, or things have got lost in translation between the Telecom rep and the customer.

I will agree on the experience - happy to prove this and certainly easily reproducible in Wellington. There are many public places where I am unable use the Vodafone network and get full reception on Telecom - the most despair I get is having to disappear from the planet when at hashigo zake

Hashigo Zake has free Wi-Fi

...Don't even get me started on Vodafone. Their network in Tauranga is shocking compared to 2degrees & Telecom.

Funny this thread is decending into the same as the point of the OP. :-)

Albeit without the silly statements found on the facebook page.

This is not a thread on what stick is bigger... All networks have their pros and cons and it comes down to customer preference.

Having just recently changed back from Vodafone to Telecom, I'm finding quite the opposite, Telecom's network is performing far better for me than I got on Vodafone (3G, not 4G). It's probably dependent on the areas you're using it in etc as to which has better coverage and capacity for your needs. Anyway, that's going a bit off-topic.

I haven't been to Hashigo for a while now but there is probably coverage in there now with the 900 3G rollout. If there isn't, it won't be far away.

If being out of contact when inside Hashigo Zake is the biggest problem in the world....

But the topic is about dumb comments in Facebook.

Outside of work, I use Facebook almost exclusively to embarrass my children.  Most of my kids' friends think their dad and I are organic peace-loving Hippies (Okay, maybe we are a bit). I like to perpetuate that image because it amuses me when they find out about my technical background. :)

This Facebook post just reminds me of those words of wisdom from Forrest Gump "Stupid is as stupid does"
