Just change now, the early termination charges on you choose are a bargain compared with the costs over at telecom.

Jughead: I think lots of people have been lured away from Telecom with the promice of better rates and better service and while they may be getting better rates in many cases the service they recived was inferior to that of Telecom's

Certainly NOT in my case...

I have replaced 3 Telecom landlines with VFX now and couldn't be happier with the service provided from WxC.

Then of course there are the features which quite frankly leave Telecom's offering in the dust:

1)  Voice Mail to e-mail
2)  Different Voice Mail messages for BUSY and NO ANSWER
3)  Caller ID is free
4)  Web-based setup for the Phone Options

And last but not least the Cost Savings:

5)  $11.25 incl. GST per month line rental (or $7.95 for second and subsequent lines)
6)  5c incl. GST per minute anywhere in NZ

Once Naked DSL arrives, I'll be porting another landline to VFX.

Given the choice, why would you continue to pay Telecom's $45 per month charge for a voice line?

Agreed. The service from WXC so far has been fantastic. My VFX service us all up and running and working great.

Can you get VFX without buying their equipment yet?

In what way? You don't need to buy equipment from them, any of their supported Linksys devices can be used so it doesn't matter where you source the hardware.

Agreed!  It's a very long list which would mean serious limitations for any unfortunate "027" Voda customers.

It makes me wonder how serious Voda are about attracting Telecom customers who might be thinking of jumping ship.

Apart from needing to buy a new phone, there are PLENTY of reasons for jumping in the other direction.

Some of these are limitations of old or even legacy products which assumed that Vodafone customers would always be 021.

It amazes me that a multi-national company with such deep pockets as Vodafone is still hampered by a billing system inherited from Bellsouth 9 years ago!

That's a huge amount of time in technological terms, kind of akin to the Bronze Age!

Telecom seems to have systems which are far more up-to-date although I still detest trying to find stuff on their web site.  Vodafone's web site is generally better although I find their advertising material quite irritating at times.

The more I think about this, the more convinced I am that Telecom have put far more investment into the implementation of number portability than Vodafone have, which makes a bit of a mockery of the many people who constantly critise Telecom for a supposed reluctance to invest in technology.

By the time I left Unisys in 2005 Telecom was in the middle of a multi-year, multi-million dollar project to align all their billing systems. They started way back then to pave their future. People don't tend to know the nuances of the business...

Yet this old billing system supports in porting, while this 'new' and apparently 'fantastic' new prepaid billing system does not at this point.

Seems Vodafone prepaid customers who move to Telecom, can not move back to Vodafone prepaid. Some people could be for a nasty surprise later down the track, with Telecom being the only current provider who will be able to support these customers on prepaid. That is of course unless NZ Communications ever gets of the ground, and I'll believe that along with many others when I see it.

Best idea is to buy a Linksys PAP2T.  They cost less than $100 + GST.

WxC will charge you 30c incl. GST per minute for calls diverted to your mobile using the Call Forwarding service.

This is the cheapest deal around that I know of.  For a time during January / February we used Telecom Call Diversion to re-route our calls to another local Auckland number and that was still costing us 5c + GST per minute.  It would definitely be a lot more to divert to a mobile...

Check with other providers, but I am fairly confident 30c incl. GST per minute is the best deal available.

Is it the Billing System to blame, or is it a deliberate (IMHO stupid) policy decision on Voda's part? Undecided

Mmm only Vodafone would know, but I agree. Why Vodafone, Why!! (Not that I am complaining through )

This is after all a great oportunity for Telecom Mobile.
