chchmjr: Only slightly off topic.
When you port to VFX is a White Pages listing still included?

Whitepages listings are handled by Telecom Directories. You can get one free residential listing, regardless of provider. So, short answer is... yes Cool

EDIT: Sorry, Telecom Directories == "Yellow Pages Group" which has now been sold :P

My Port from Telstraclear Homeplan (Telecom landline wholesale to Telstraclear) went very smoothly. WXC phoned me at 09:00 (Port was booked for 9 am) to restart the device and four hours later port was complete. It took a bit of time to work out that all my VFX settings had reset to default but it all went very smoothly

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Well talked to a customer representative at Telstra who said that yes the cutoff for the Telstra line was scheduled for today and no there had not been any problem it had just not been done.. she would put it through as a urgent issue and I should hear from someone tomorrow.... So think there may be just a little issue with Telstra meeting their SLA on this one Frown

Nety: Well the Telstra line has finally been shut off. Only took 4 business days and 4 calls to Telstra Undecided

Sounds like about par for the course...

We are still arguing with Telstra trying to convince them to stop billing us for a business line which was disconnected more than 60 days ago (this is the required notice period according to their T&Cs).

Then they agreed to stop billing us immediately for the ADSL service which Telecom mistakenly disconnected in early February.  Guess what?

They are still billing us for that as well...

The next battle I can see coming will be for the business line ported to VFX on March 9.  I bet they don't stop billing us on May 9 as they promised...

We have sent various faxes explaining why we are not paying part of their bill, but no worries, they just keep on billing us anyway.

If I had the choice, I would never sign up with Telstra for ANYTHING, EVER AGAIN.  Trying to get changes made to the services on our account was a hugely frustrating exercise with delays at every turn.  I spent hours waiting on hold over a 2 month period (thank heavens for speaker phones).  There's no doubt that Telecom are much better to deal with when it comes to service changes.

Keep those faxes and the transmission confirmations as proof you sent them for when it all goes pear shaped with them. I would also suggest recording all calls you make to them since they have a habit of not actually doing what they say they will regarding credits and disconnections.

Maverick can you just confirm. We don't need to do anything to get our VFX number listed in the white pages?

I'm 95% sure Maverick will confirm what I about to say...

You are NOT entitled to a free listing in the White Pages unless you rent a physical LANDLINE (be it through Telecom, TCL or other providers who resell the Telecom Homeline service), or if you rent a landline via TCL's cable network.  Sorry!

You need to sign a contract with Telecom Directories.

When we ditched our landline last year and moved to VoIP, I had to go through this process.  You can request that Telecom Directories list any number you like in the White Pages, so long as you pay a fee of about $23 per year.  Because we still have a Telecom landline at another property, I asked them to charge that account, but if you don't have another Telecom account, then you should be able to pay them by credit card I would imagine.

A couple of years ago we tried out WiredCountry + VoIP. I simply called Telecom on 123 and they provided a free whitepages listing, and told me that every residential address was entitled to one free listing. This may have changed now that Telecom Directories is a seperate business, though.

Maverick. Could you please confirm the story with white pages listings. I thought every house was entitled to 1 free listing??? But I notice that when I ported my number from telstra clear my listing has been removed from the online white pages. Could you please add the answer to this whatever it may be to the FAQ section of your VFX page to better inform future users.
