solaybro: If I am a Telstra customer can I jump over to Vodafone without a contract? I don't like being tied to contracts for a year.

You have to go over a 12 month contract regardless for existing customers.

VDSL is not offered on open term, sorry. The plans include a twelve month agreement which covers the installation, and the $10/month upgrade fee is waived for those twelve months.

If you're a former TelstraClear ADSL customer, you can upgrade to VDSL for the one-off modem cost of $99.05, and we'll take care of the rest. :)

Looks like I can't get VDSL anyway since I live in a cable area. When you get cable do you still have that hideous black cable through the wall and go into that black box or is it possible to get cable wired into a jack point?

Something weird with the address checker. I can't get VDSL but the next door neighbor can. We are all on ADSL. I have flicked Dylan a PM to see if I an get a prequal done. I have ADSL at 14 Mb/s with Vodafone already and think I am around 700 m from the cabinet.

The address checker was weird for me. It opened up saying no luck, then after 30 seconds it refreshed with VDSL options, too.

I rang and got set up and will have the modem today or Monday.

It'll be interesting to see how we go with the installation as i'm in an apartment building. I am an owner, but still, might cause some issues. *shrug* I suppose it depends on if they need to fiddle with the wiring at the ground or at my level. Chorus will be calling and I can talk about it with them then.

Cable, like fibre & VDSL, needs its own jack put in for the internet connection. The technician that performs the install can put the jack wherever you'd like, property structure permitting, and make sure the coax cable that runs to the cable modem is short if preferable. It's a pretty flexible setup. The newer DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems are a bit smaller than the Motorola SurfBoards.

Good to chat to you Hairy1. Agree that it looks like you should be able to get VDSL, have passed the request and to provisioning team as discussed. Let me know how it works out. :)

Looking at the options when my current 24 month contract runs out and this seems like a very good package.

Only 12 months contract
Free install and modem
5 "best mates" for free mobile/toll calls
Same price as ADSL

The only problem is:

Will Netflix work on Vodafone? (posts on Geekzone about transparent proxies and dynamic IP causing problems, I currently use PlayMo.TV for a US DNS)

Also one question:
Currently have a clear.net.nz email address that costs $5 per month. Would this become free if connect to this new plan?

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

PS: I also had problems with Vodafone's address checker. Initially it said ADSL only but today has included VDSL. SNAP's and Telecom's address checkers said OK to VDSL yesterday.

I've got a Vodafone ADSL connection with a 13Mb connection and don't have any problems with Netflix using UnblockUS. I don't think I'm getting HD at the moment but buffering is rarely a problem. When it is I think it's likely more to do with other downloads happening at the same time.

I've signed up for Vodafone VDSL so can let you know what I find though as a survey of 1.

I rang Vodafone call centre 3 or 4 times yesterday to switch 2 different business Vodafone ADSL connections to Vodafone VDSL. Got transferred around at least 3 times each per call as I was always being dealt by the 'wrong department'. Someone promised me to call yesterday which they did not. Rang just now before and got transferred 4 times and was still on hold to get to the 5th department for few minutes before I hung up.

Have 2 lines in each business. 1 business phone line and 1 home broadband line (Cheaper + more data + no overage charge in case employees go over the monthly cap). All I want is to switch that broadband line to VDSL (home VDSL pricing/plan) for both businesses. Have been out of contract for 5+ years for both businesses.

Wanting to move over from Vodafone ADSL to VDSL + free install + free VDSL modem. Happy to sign another 12 months contract for both businesses to get the free VDSL modem like 'new' customers are getting. I do not see why existing customers out of contract happy to sign up for further 12 months like new customers should not get a free VDSL modem. How hard can this be Vodafone for your call centre?

I will give it 1 more try else the $5000/year spend is going to another ISP.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Thanks for the call this morning Dylan. My provisioning is underway. I get 14 mbps down currently and Netflix works fine in hd with no buffering using dns based unblock us. Will report my speed once provisioning has settled down.

No more double data on the new plans. It is now (I think) $1 per gig overage.
