sbiddle: A grandfathered plan is exactly that - you don't get cheaper calling, cheaper data or free voicemail like most new plans have.

You're on a grandfathered plan and will get those same terms and conditions for as long as you're on that plan. If you believe Vodafone should give you something that that plan doesn't offer, I assume you'd be just as happy for Vodafone to suddenly increase the price one day?

Does this mean subscribers only get to use cellsites that existed at the time of the contract effective date?

Why should people get the use of future cellsites , for free?

I don't completely buy your argument. Equipment upgrades occur over time, doesn't mean you should bump your customers .

No-one is getting bumped. Retired Smart customers get the same benefits they signed up for and are not required to move to a new plan. I would view it as "encouraging" customers to move to new plans.

That being said. I was downloading at 4.6 megabytes a second off of my 3G connection so I'm hardly complaining!

People tend to place different personal markers on what they perceive as 'value'. Your 3GB may be huge value for you, but for most of our customers (trust me, we do market research on this stuff) it's unused and unwanted. They want other stuff, which is why different deals come up at different times.

I can add to that, talking to thousands of customers...not everyone wanted 3gb of data and not everyone used it! Different strokes for different folks!

I am still on that plan and for me it is amazing value. I regularly use the full 3gb and seldomly use the minutes (even though there are only 30 included). When I am away from home there are very few free wifi hotspots at either motels or hotels so my phone is my cheapest option. Never gone over but got within 50mb a few times. To me 4G isn't that much of a deal. When I am on HSPDA I can download in the vacinity of 5 megabytes a second like the previous poster which is faster that my home ADSL2 connection, so outright speed isn't much of an issue imo.
