surfisup1000: It would be nice to see an analysis on both coverage and speed too.

That would be great as over 90% of our 3G mobile network is minimum dual carrier 900 / 2100Mhz many 3G 2100MHz sites are tri / quad and some 5 carriers and more 4G coverage,

Maybe voice quality as well between the 2 networks as well

The Vodafone NZ mobile network RAN is NSN across all technology's 2G / 3G / 4G

Yeah like when travelling to the third word - like say Hastings. I was momentary confused in the weekend by (a now unfamiliar) GPRS appearing on my phone.

You should not be attaching to GPRS unless 3G or 4G is offline then handset will pass down to 2G / GPRS

You should not be attaching to GPRS unless 3G or 4G is offline then handset will pass down to 2G / GPRS

It wasn't for a long period, and didn't have a big impact. Mind you if Bay Espresso didn't produce a decent roast, I may have gone into complete culture shock.

Yeah they have done a good job, and the reason why my company switched back to Vodafone for all our mobiles after trying another provider for two years.

I wonder if telecom can still be smug about their coverage like 2 years back -- when they told me, we are more expensive because our network is better.

And for a while that was true. Although I guess everyone will have different views on that.

What would be interesting is how 2degrees compares globally. They are lagging well behind in New Zealand, but my guess is they still stack up well globally. I couldn't work out how to read the survey results.

oxnsox: it appears the outcome for NZ is based only on speedtests to Auckland as Akl is the only NZ place I saw in the top 100 cities.
Other countries have listings for muliple cities.

New Zealand has cities other than Auckland?

I think you mean Australia, There is also this small island next to Tasmania called Christchurch that had the earthquakes.

There is City and Country performance ratings, Country NZ is #1...

For what it's worth I had the misfortune of using Optus in Australia last year I could honestly say that 2degrees is 100 times better.

Me neither... Adelaide got top city... WTF????

(disclaimer: I live in Adelaide and unless you're on telstra, there's no 4g 4kms out of the city centre.)
