Aren't the common passwords love, sex, secret and God?

All I see is stars, does your web browser do that automatically when you type a password in?   When I type my password: hunter2 it looks normal in my browser.

freitasm: I've received a comment from Vodafone:

Vodafone takes data security and the privacy of our customers’ information extremely seriously.

We’ve investigated overnight and identified a small number of fixed broadband accounts that were allocated the same initial activation password when their accounts were set up last month, which had the potential to be accessed.

We have immediately remedied this issue by resetting all of the initial set-up passwords on these accounts.

We apologise for any concern this has caused our customers, and reassure them that it is not possible to access credit card details or personal financial information – contrary to what was reported.

Vodafone mobile customers are not affected.

We will continue to investigate our processes around account set-up to ensure our customers’ account security and privacy is maintained to the highest levels.

How did the guy on the news get into those accounts without the usernames?

Actually since this morning the article has changed from insinuating that multiple accounts were accessed to one account being accessed. Presumably he typo'd his username to another one and they happened to have the same password. If that's what happened I can imagine how he didn't get a very useful response from customer service.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.

I think his comment was a joke too.

This is bigger and more serious than first thought. There must be a master master password. This can only be fixed now with a master filter.

There is no master master password.  There is nothing to see here.  Move along please.
