I might try a hard reset on my router as well - see what it does. I switched it to G-only mode (instead of mixed mode) and that seemed to improve it a bit. I also downloaded the WPA2 (AES) patch for Windows XP and am connecting via WPA2 encryption. This seems quicker than WPA - really weird.

In the meantime, I'm getting the best speedtest results ever via ethernet, so I'm happy:

I reckon the lucky folks on the 40GB and 80GB will be getting their 25Mbps upgrade pretty soon - it certainly looks like they've got the backhaul capacity to cope with it.

Yes WPA2 is faster than WPA for some reasons. Are you sure that 40gigs people will get 25mbps ?? I am on that plan but my speed is so bad when wired.

watch out people, when you say you want to be upgraded to the 10mbit/20gig plan they may hear it as "2mbit/20gig" which doesnt really exist but turns out thats what i was on for the past few weeks :S

thankfully telstra's customer service actually pulled through and sorted me out within the same day or maybe the next cant remember, but yea now i get 10mb on speedtest.net on my lappy and 7mb on my pc - i cant b bothered finding out why this is im just happy im getting more than 2mb

17mbit is insane! do you have 2 cable connections?lol

i just upgraded to 10mbit and i often speed test as 11mbit even after tc helpdesk saying i probably wont quite get 10mb because of overhead.

i dont know anyone on ADSL that can speedtest at the full line speed at any time of the day

[EDIT (RC):Please call the correct names for technology/companies in the forums!]

I won't do the Wellington one, as it looks pretty crap due to de-peering :(

That is a good point.. comparing to any other offering in NZ is Telstra cable the only one over performing??

Hi:

I'm from Wellington (Johnsonville), and have just been upgraded from 4/2 10GB to 10/2 20GB about 2 weeks ago.  However, my speeds are pretty crappy.

I've also noticed that on the odd occassions where I power-off or reset my router, it sometimes takes ages for the modem to sync up - sometimes as long as 30 mins.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Contact TCL and ask them to check that the upgrade was really done. If yes then ask for a technician to visit.

I live in Wadestown, Wellington and I'm on the 5Gb, 4Mbps plan. Response is really slow at present, speedtest to Wellington server says 656K.  If I test against the Auckland server I usually get around the 4.1Mbps.

Why is Wellington so slow??
