I'm going to guess the wife's number is on the old TelstraClear system? (Is that even a separate HLR?)

Still uses the Vodafone NZ HLR and I am looking at the SRRI pointing at another Telco not MVNO

It was, then TCL stopped reselling mobile service, and VF took all the numbers back. Or something like that. Not sure really, it all happened after I left TCL.

Hi all I have just checked the sim card and it is a Vodafone card. I checked my Vodafone on the phone and the phone is on Vodafone big red plan which we pay a monthly fee to Vodafone. I can remember being with my Wife when she brought the phone from the Paraparaumu branch of Vodafone and her signing up for the plan. She has been at the same address today and has had no problems receiving. txt.

Just confirming you removed the SIM card from your wife's phone and checked that? We know you are the A party and I know you are on Vodafone

You gave me the incorrect mobile number via DM then for your Wife if this is the case

Text your own number to 300 from your wife's phone and let us know what it says.

I just called Paul now and the mobile number in the DM to me was incorrect, I got him to SMS the word number to 521 from his wife's phone

Edit: Speaking to Paul the location this happened in is very marginal coverage in building

So the system realised that the message from husband A was really meant for wife B even though he had the wrong number and it only took a few hours? Almost as good as a manual exchange with an all knowing operator.

Well then that was a bit of a storm in a tea cup in the end. All down to dropping a 0 from the number when pasting it into the DM and according to Johnr it was a actual number just to confuse it even more. Sorry guys no barbecue and thanks to johnr for going the extra mile to help sort it. Cheers Paul
