I can't go into too much detail, however there are some capacity issues in certain nodes. There are plans underway to have it sorted, but as anything, it takes time. If you wish to send angry letters, by all means you're more than welcome however the problem is well known and underway to resolution.

For the others that are having drop offs, this is another issue that can most likely be sorted easier than throughput issues. Pm me your details and i'll be happy to take a squiz for you. I'm not management, but am Senior in the faults area so please don't send me any requests for anything other than fault checks.

I also idle in the IRC channel, so feel free to come in there if you need something.

Cheers.

CG, thanks for that missive.
[edit] PS, it may be a good idea to let your CS folk know that we wouldn't mind a bit of info about this, espesially with the "fault line" always being so slow to be answered. Previous posts say it all.

I'm still having this cable drop out problem and it's been particulaty bad since about noon today, my connection is almost unusable. Took me 5 minutes to reach geekzone. 50% of the web pages I open time out.

Myself also. In fact the first thing that made me realise the modem was back online was getting a notification of a reply on this thread. Bit of irony there.

Another piece of irony was getting called by TelstraClear today to ask if I'd like to upgrade my plan.
Me: You're not even providing me the service I should get now!
CSR: Yes, we apologise for that. But would you like to upgrade for when it's all fixed?

I thought after I hung up that I really should have asked them to upgrade for free.

I called TC today re. the cable dropout issues (and immediately got through to a tech without any waiting!!). I was told the issues were due to overloading on certain nodes, as has been mentioned. I was also told that new hardware was being brought in and should be installed in the next two weeks. That should alleviate or fix the congestion issues. Note that there are several 'shoulds' there. Fingers crossed.

Well, it looks like the problem has been resolved.
My cable internet has been working flawlessly since 23rd November. Yay. Thanks TelstraClear for finally getting it sorted - not that you should ever have let it become a problem in the first place - and, you still need to learn a thing or two about keeping your customers informed.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Same here, and after it returns the speed is worse than dial up, for a time.

Yeah mine's been working fine for a while now which I'm glad about however I have been noticing my STB resetting itself more often Frown it's not too much of an annoyance though.

The STB issue is noted on the Network Status section of the TelstraClear website. Our problem is not. Care to explain why TelstraClear?

My STB doesn't reset at all.  There are two ways to resolve the STB reboots:
1) Turn off the Cable Modem so it doesn't cause the STB to reboot because of excess ARP traffic
2) Use a better STB Sealed.  And you get better Picture Quality.
