VF and Telecom, IMO, aren't that much different from each other - can't see why people argue on the matter

Is that because they keep waving them around trying to get signal. Or every 5 minutes they loose all signal and you get a lot of people saying 'hello, can you hear me? Hello!!?!?'

Where I live here in New Plymouth I had a TCNZ cellphone and the above is what applied to me I had to wave it around to get a signal at my home. I have since changed to VF and far better signal. No having to go outside the house on a wet night to get a decent signal. Also I might add too that I am on a plan with VF with the bestmates included and my ladyfriend has also gone to Vodafone as well with me on prepay and also got bestmates. The bestmates has actually helped us call each other more often too which we wouldnt have normally done on our Telecom mobiles.

I'm 21 and I have a phone on both network. Both have their advantages. My CDMA phone (On Flexi Mytime) gives me really good off-peak pricing without having to worry about how many minutes I have used (I was previously on a 'Go Mytime' plan, and flexi is, IMO, much better than those (now grandfathered) plans, as well as the new 'Freetime' plans.

My Voda is on a You Choose plan which gives me a good peak time minute rate, bestmate and much simpler roaming.

All 3 people in my household have a phone on each network for similar reasons.

As MrPink says, both telcos are pretty much of a muchness, so if you're unhappy with one, you not going to feel any better by switching the other. I use a You Choose plan on Vodafone and am reasonably happy with the costs I incur through their add-ins as it more than covers my needs and I've had no real problems with their coverage.

However the major reason I don't use Telecom (apart from pricing not really being an issue for me) is their CDMA system. I travel overseas at least once a year and purchase a local prepaid sim card for my phone (as call transfers are far too cost prohibitive) which is something I would not be able to do with a Telecom mobile.

All that said, with Telecom about to change to GSM, I have a feeling that they will claw back a reasonable amount of market share if they retain (and possibly even sharpen) the pricing plans they have, as (as has been pointed out) Vodafone don't (currently) compete on cross-network pricing. It'll be interesting to see what "return your CDMA phone" options Telecom come out with...

Well, Telecom could start with a splash, but their data roaming prices for GSM/UMTS/HSDPA are just exactly the same as Vodafone. So nothing changes, even when they can.

This is an issue neither network seems to really be addressing - there are numerous people who carry two phones because the plans from both telco's don't meet their needs. These people are already your customers and you have the potential to generate a higher ARPU from them by getting all of their business.

Rather than increase ARPU and have word of the mouth advertising work, they want to force people into their network by ony allow services within their own offerings. Dumb...

I have a similar setup to Adam,

Telecom Flexi mytime (post pay) for all my general calling as the same "great rates" cover both networks. (phone is a Nokia 6275 as Okta is in repair, don't ask.)

My GSM phone is on Motormouth prepay is only carried to allow people using Vodafone to reply free of charge and to call 021 and landlines during the daytime (rare as I now work fulltime mon-fri) I used to have an on-account to support some legacy stuff like faxing and demos with consulting but this has finally seen it's demise. (phone is Nokia e50)

It works well though i'm finding I'm leaving the GSM phone at home quite often now.

I do find vodafone really expensive.I've been living in new zealand for the past 17 years and I have never bought my phone from them just because their high end models mobile are roughly $400-$500 more expensive than nokia hk .

They should also release more new models.Just look at the vodafone website.Motorola V3X has been selling for the past 3-4 years.

The data is especially expensive. 3MB for $10 you can hardly do anything.$40 for 200MB is too expensive and they are a bit cheeky. You can choose 3,15 then 200mb plans but nothing in between.I would love a 100mb plan.

It would also be great if it was $25 for a 200mb plan but that will never happen.

I surf the net with my mobile alot so even 200mb is not enough and the 1gb plan are too expensive.

I've been hearing about econet quite alot during these few years but its all been just talking....
