Thread bump. Any change in the situation? A cousin of mine is looking at property here and wants to know what the broadband is like (currently he has fibre). Is is still just cable here, or anything planned?

I see earlier in this thread some parts of the town seem to get differing things.

Some areas are on HFC, some are Vodafone-supplied FTTH. I'm not sure what it shows as on the address-checker, so PM me an address if you like and I can double-check. Speeds/plans are the same as anywhere else on the HFC network.

This might be a bit cheeky, but why not knock on a few doors close to where you want to buy. If nothing else you will get to meet your prospective neighbours.

So some places have fibre and some don't? Interesting. What percentage is what? ie, 40% cable, 60% fibre?

He doesn't have an address yet :) he was just looking at the area as somewhere to move to.

Is it the latter stages that have FFTH access? The sections on the Northern side that were completed by Todd Property after the original developer went under?

I dunno why - Enable are doing it in Christchurch and Chorus are doing it in Wellington and Kapiti, all places that have legacy TCL cable. Why not Pegasus? Cost? Access?

Enable and Chorus are doing it because the government are paying them?

Sure, but couldn't they also pay them to do it in Pegasus, and give the residents there some choice too?

who pay for it?

im sure it could have been included in the UDF2/2+ rollouts but they were not for what ever reason?

Don't really know the history, but that sounds about right - it's the more recent and northern areas.

Thanks for that gaddman. I will let my cousin know. Is there a map of which areas are fibre/cable etc?

Sounds like 2degrees have completed build of a new mobile tower in pegasus. Friend of mine who lives there noticed full signal strength and a speed test of over 100mbs this morning.

Days before RWC starts as well. Maybe some fixed wireless products coming to pegasus to compete with VF HFC which sounds like its still a dog.

I thought all the issues with cable were sorted and it was going great guns now?
My cousin didn't end up moving there in the end...

For the most part you're spot on! There still seems to be the occasional issue for a few people but it seems to be limited to certain parts of Pegasus, other parts are solid as. In a year and a half on cable here we've had one outage which lasted under an hour. Just ran a speed test (over wifi...) and got 201/22 (on 200/20) plan at 5pm on a school day.

Very happy to see the tower switched on! Nearly got stalled again but some locals upset it was too close to a preschool.... (after getting stalled once already by other locals upset it was too close to the bridge).
