May look silly now but they would of done it on purpose to open up more numbers so they were fwd thinking

I have a 027 where all the 7 digits are the same and have been offered 10k for it. Still wouldn't sell it.
Even 50k I probably wouldn't sell it even with the BS that comes with it.
But I highly recommend getting a sequential number as they are easy to remember.

Back then people were slow and happy with their tech. They would have been reluctant to go through the hassle of the move if Telecom didnt mandate this genius marketing campaign all in the order to move people off the amps/damps to CDMA and a the same time (as JohnR said), open up the number range...hence they decided on 027 and numbers from the old 025. 6 digit format were prefixed with 4. A couple years later...the 4 became a 5 and now here we are.....people dont really care about numbers because we all have satisfactory phone books in our phones.

(remembering back in the day name to number wasnt a thing... address books have evolved in time).

You know your phone has a contacts app right? Even more, you can say "hey google/siri, call bob"

Pretty much this. I can barely remember my own number (which is 9 digits) let alone other peoples, even close family members, who also have 9 digit numbers.
