Just to clarify - 1.2 MB/s is the same as 9.6 Mbps (8 bits in a byte). Mbps is usually connection speed, MB/s is usually download speed.

Yes, it makes a difference so it would be good to get the word from @PippaC on this.

It is not unusual for people in tech companies to mistake one for another. They're different measures/values.

I have a feeling it will be 1.2Mbps - the FAQ under "What can I do with my Endless Data at reduced speeds?" says: (emphasis mine)

With Endless Data at reduced speeds you can continue to do all the things you love like listening to music, keeping up on social media or streaming video (in max SD quality only). You may not be able to use multiple applications at the same time.

Once you start using your Endless Data you will notice a difference in speed with increased load time, particularly when watching video or viewing images in high resolution. The actual speeds will vary depending on device, location, network coverage and network congestion.

Hi Geeks, yes you are correct - this was a typo that's now been corrected.

Thanks for spotting it!

Cheers,

Peter

@PeterAB, @HamishVF any comment on the MBps vs Mbps question? Which one is correct (Megabytes/second or megabits/second)?

Hi @freitasm,

I've just posted a reply.

As everyone thought, this is a typo that's now been fixed.

It's bits not bytes...

Thanks for spotting it!

Cheers,

Peter

Props to Vodafone for dropping the Forced SD mode stuff that they had put into their last Unlimited Prop.

That was one of the larger show stoppers IMO.

do you think after the allocated data, the speed is ok enough ? it makes it kinda up in the air as bulk of the customers wont be aware what to expect !

Here are the recommended speeds from Netflix themselves:

  • 0.5 Mbps for any streaming
  • 3 Mbps for SD or DVD quality
  • 5 Mbps for HD quality
  • 25 Mbps for Ultra HD/4K quality

it will do about 480P, it's not the worst. it's somewhat the industry standard.

Spark to 1.25Mbit :)

Hopefully we'll see some interesting offers come out from the other providers now that Vodafone has made this move, because it's a pretty damn good deal, even if you just go by the provided data rates and exclude the 1.2Mbps unlimited data option.

I went through the process of changing my plan but at the final stage it appeared to jam up and it was unclear whether the change had been made.

Looking at the Vodafone app now my plan is described as 'Unlimited Mobile Plan - SIMO' which I think is the legacy plan that I was on. So, either the change failed or there is an overnight process required to establish it.

Either way this is not what I would call a customer friendly experience.

I live in hope that Spark will come to the party and do something similar or better, especially since they have capacity to burn (RWC upgrades, etc). The current plans feel very out of date

It would not be unexpected to see these plans shake up the market a bit.

I would not be surprised to see 2d sweeten their deal a little for example.

On the business plan, is there a way to add an extra data pack to the monthly plan? I'm looking at this for a team of four so 40GB won't be enough, but it's not a million miles off either.

Hey @lyndondrake - are you talking about the Business Team plans that launched yesterday? These are 40GB of max speed data for each connection so hopefully that makes it work for you!

Oh cool! And is that 40GB per person in a shared pool as well so that 4 people = a shared pool of 160GB? Or each person is on their own 40GB?

Not shared on those plans, each person has their own 40GB 🙂

If its 480P then thats the Maximum video streaming quality for the Social Pass and Video Pass.

My two boys are on the $39 Advantage Lite with Social Pass ($10 credit and then $10 for the pass.....pass was free for a year but that has just finished........so it stays at $39), so its a no brainer to upgrade them to the Small unlimited plan.

Cool:-)

How are you supposed to change plan... asking for number to proceed?

I'm already logged in to my Vodafone and already had the text confirmation... am I missing something?

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.
