About US$2500/year - based on the smallest (155Mb/s) link SCC provide costing US$500000/year[1]. Allow for it being used 8 hours/day and the annual cost is US$833 which equates to NZ$110/month. On that figure alone Xnet's torrent plan is unsustainable if the bandwidth is used to the detriment of profitable customers.

You also need to remember that when an ISP signs up for bandwidth the costs at that time are in perpetuity so the actual costs to most ISPs will be significantly higher than those stated above.

As a comparison I have a quote for a trans-Tasman 2Mb/s link on my desk at the moment - it's around NZ$4000/month before we start haggling.

If xnet do what Xtra and Woosh did with their unlimited plans...throttle the service and lie to their customers for months about the reasons for the slow speeds, only to admit months later...then xnet will loose not only customers, but their reputation.

Definately true, I remember my friend getting incorect pricing on a TV and instead of the company saying that this was false, they paid up, even when it probably wasnt there mistake and the customer influenced a lot of other people to buy from this complany. So $100 spent being a decent company, rewarded them hugely.

I have not seen any posts from Maverick in ages...

I even made a 'xnet supporters' thread, which recieved quite a lot of posts in support, yet did not hear a peep from the xnet team or Maverick...

I fear the worst.
Has the great run of open communication within Geekzone ended?
Is the Torrent plan being limited without us being told?
Are we facing the same situation as Go-Large and Woosh unlimited plans?

Oh dear.

I hope we hear from the Maverick and the xnet team some time soon to clear this up.

For now, I will give them the benifet of the doubt...but the longer this goes on...the longer my off-peak speeds are crippled, the longer I hear nothing from Maverick or the xnet team...the worse this situation is going to get, the more frustrated with the company I will get and will eventually leave, and of course with that comes the negative publicity xnet will recieve through this site, as by the sounds of it many others are in the same boat.

If you want torrent users to go back to the regular Fusion plan, then watch this space for more whinging and whining about people`s inability to get decent international speeds in the evenings at peak times.

Wow you really are the anti-social sort, aren't you? I bet you're the sort who also gets upset when people don't just eat cereal for breakfast :-D I bet you REALLY get upitty when people have breakfast outside of the morning hours :-D Yep - you're the kind of jerk who LOVES to tell others how to live. Why don't you go live in fundamentalist America if that's what you like?

Once again jerk: we Torrent users PAY for the privilege. If WxC can't provide enough bandwidth for any user to even come CLOSE to 75GB during off-peak hours then they should either adjust the amount, the number of 'free' (because it's NOT really free - we PAY for it with an increased cost during peak hours) hours, or the pricing. Better yet - they should adjust all three of those things to better reflect reality and manage bandwidth.

Right now this is what I'm having to put up with: checking for new posts on Usenet is taking HOURS (should take a couple minutes). Webpages take several minutes to load. File transfer is a JOKE. Syncing using my iDisk is an impossibility. Downloading new podcasts in iTunes is taking ALLL NIGHT and sometimes even longer than the off-peak period (it may be called a 'Torrent' plan - but plenty of people use it for other tasks!), IRC and IM connections keep dropping. It's a right fuster cluck! :-(

Oh - and one more thing! I DO run BitTorrent, but I set responsible, sensible LIMITS. 400 max. connections and an upload limit of 42KB/s. I'll bet the majority of P2P users are either too ignorant or arrogant to do the same :-( Hell - if you DON'T set limits you're only shotting yourself in the foot. If you let yourself get flooded by too many requests or you make too many connections you're liable to download LESS, not more over the long run.
