+1 on the walled garden approach, when will they learn?

I'm still on contract with them, but what's the incentive when pretty much all I do is text (to ALL operators). The only good thing they have going for them is better mobile TV, but even then the 3g isn't great where I live.

this campaign will make the auckland teens and middle aged peeps happy.. doubt anyone in auckland will make the switch to xt.. im on xt, and all my mates is on vodafone (am middle aged) hence why i carry a cheap vodafone handset to recieve txts from my poor uni mates. lol

Why do you doubt that people will switch to XT? Hell, in auckland XT have a vastly better 3g network (except for at my place it seems) so most people I know have already made the switch.

Most people don't care for that and due to this closed garden they will stay with VF.

So you are saying that most people will stay on vodafone because of the closed garden that means they can only text to vodafone rather than move to XT where tehy can text anywhere for the same price? That makes little sense IMO..

well vodafone have a majority of the auckland market (teen and middle aged) - if one moves to xt, will the rest follow? unlikley.. so why make the switch when 90% of your friends are with vodafone.. i believe vodafone have 90% of the market in auckland.. telecom has chch and all the smaller towns in nz (again for the teen and middle aged market)

Totally disagree with that statement - I would put it at XT30% CDMA 20% VF30% and 2degrees 10% and whoknowswhat for the rest among my contacts, in Auckland, and thankfully I am not middle aged yet.

Only thing keeping one of my handsets on VF is the twitter/facebook text alerta and my only spare CDMA handsets not supporting number portability of an 021 number, and 2 degrees not supporting twitter or facebook yet. Once either a better CDMA or XT phone falls into my hands or 2 degrees do those then that connection is moving too.

I agree with the auckland vs rest of nz divide.

I pick up a fair few random numbers, & I've noticed for young people in auckland it is nearly always 021 while outside auckland the reverse is true & it is telecom

using my knowledge of math/physics I'm betting there will be a very gradual slide of users towards XT because of their very favourable txting plan

THEN we will hit a "tipping point" which will see a truly MASSIVE swing towards XT unless VF responds with an unrestricted plan themselves

the million dollar question is WHEN wll this happen?

I'm going to make a ball park estimate of when about 20% of your mates in your region are on XT that will force you to switch. & this is how the snowball effect will happen
