mmm perhaps call telstraclear and tell them you want saturn digital tv, then if the tv3 quality is poor, you can then legally tell them to troubleshoot it :D

I think I understand the issue now since I have it also. For me anyway, TV3 over analogue (that is without the decoder) is not that great. I get wavy interference lines in the picture. Over digital it's clearer of course. But sometimes I want to watch analogue TV3 since I have the cable box tuned to a different channel and it's being recorded by my PVR. Can't work out why TV3 is bad over analogue =, TV1, TV2 and Prime are usually fine

i have all channels RF out from the digital decoder to the TV as well. that way i can get the normal FTA channels and will not be affected if the channel is changed to the paid channels for PVR.

Anyway, the TV3 from the digital decoder's RF out is clear as other channels. And if i remember correctly, when we had analogue decoder, all channels are fine as well.

I must have some local interference then. What I do now is run the RF output from the cable box to the RF input on my TV. I also run the composite video output from the cable box to my TV so I can watch the scrambled channels. I tune the TV to all the unscrambled channels on the cable. As I noted before. TV1, TV2, Prime, Weather come in fine. But TV3 has occasional herringbone interference which I have not been able to fix. I use good quality coax, connector and splitters and can't see what other device around could cause that interference.

Interestingly when I had analogue cable and the analogue cable box did not pass the entire frequency bandwidth through its RF output, I had to split the signal before it hit the cable box and feed one signal into the RF input of the TV. The same problem also occurred then on TV so it's clearly some problem with my cabling or external inteference. What's frustrating is the interference is intermittent so it's hard to locate.

Saturn transmit tv3 on multiple frequencies over cable, with some being very poor quality (and wobbly) which may explain the symptoms. Try retuning to one of the others. I tend to have trouble with C4 for some reason (running through a splitter) with terrible interference, but again, I think it is local....

The problem with C4 is TCL's feed still comes via terrestrial TV - they have an aerial on their building in Seaview pointed at Mt KauKau. C4 is broadcase on VHF CH2 in Wellington and tends to suffer from wavey interference due to TV1 being broadcast on CH1. The problem is even more noticeable if you have TCL digital TV and I'm not sure if there are any immediate plans in the near future to change things as the issue is apparently more to do with C4 not prividing an alternative digital feed.

my C4 is next-to-perfect. i use a dse tv card with the standard bundled sftware. is there any reason for me to use fine tuning? and what channels is tv3 available on? right now, its on 52 for me.

41 is a no go. I think my program usesdifferent channels or something, because I have to use the cable autoscan thing when i set the channels. 50-52 is TV1-3, 6 is prime and 8 is C4...

Whats going on???

I know its not my PC, my computer is reasonably up to date (p4 3.2ghz, 1gb ram and 256mb geforce graphics)

Is it my tv card? (Lifeview 33 or something, its the DSE one)

different countries have different channel frequencies...

make sure that in the software/drivers for your tv card that you are set to new zeladn or if it wants a number than '64' should do from memory (don't ask me why but it just does - i suppose could be that our telephone country code is 0064)

if you search the forum, you might able to find an archived topic, which i posted with information about Saturn Digital RF output frequencies for all channels.

Have a look and good luck, if you can't find the FTA frequencies, let me know, I'll post it again. Luckily the philips lcd tv we have, displays the RF frequencies for each channels. :-D

unfortunately, my card IS set to 64 (NZ) and for some peculiar reason, doesn't ask me for the frequencies. Is there another program or setting?

no, there arent anymore settings i can think of.

you can alwasy try DScaler which is an opesource tv program, and that allows you to set frequencies etc...

I just thought of something, is you TV card set to cable or attenna? id try reversing that setting as that affects channel assignings. I pretty sure attena will work fine with Saturn. I have done it before as experimentation.

(if opnly i could be bothered running some coax to the room my computer is in... i just use our aerial which is very poor in quality and I can't get subtitles on teletext... grrr...)

apteryx: Yes, this works. I was an unbeliever; how can a digital signal get put into an RF input and work on an analogue TV? But, the previous owners had installed Saturn TV, and even left a cable. With a threaded to normal RF input adaptor ($3.98 from Dick Smith) this gives access to 1, 2, 3, 4, Prime, Maori and Saturn weather. Excellent!

let me get this stright... So if I moved into a place where Saturn TV had been disconnected and got one of these

If the Saturn connection had been disconnected, say at the pole, then no device would work. If OTOH all that happened was the decoder has been removed and the account cancelled, then the signal might still be on the wire. The RF adapter would allow you to at least receive the FTA channels that are not encrypted. That would also include Saturn Weather and the preview channels I suspect
