It is interesting reading the frustration that users of WX have with the prices they are being charged, especially for a service where there are no alternative 'fixed line' options.

I find it difficult to comprehend the notion of 'trial subdivisions' especially given these trials have been in place for 4 years.

From my understanding, and not from the WX perspective, but from Chorus's - Broadband Over Fibre (BOF) has been in trial mode for 4 years and at its inception WorldxChange (WX) was the only service provider to create and market a product to utilise this service. The reason it has been in trial so long - and possibly why no one else has come on board - has been that UFB has been on the horizon and everyone has been waiting for this.

WorldxChange remains the only service provider with a developed product to make use of BOF, however there are NO barriers to other providers developing their own products to utilise Chorus's service. It is still unclear the relationship between the governments UFB and existing BOF, but my contact advises that there will no doubt be clarification on the expectations on both services as time progresses.

Strange really...

BOF and UFB - almost like VHS and BETA

It is called marketing and seems to work, since they are getting you frustrated with your ISP while they are unable to actually provide you with the service

It's nothing more frustrating for me at the moment than Xnet price.

+1. They are burglars.

So you know the wholesale Chorus pricing to make that comment? I can assure you it's not the same as a UBA copper circuit.

As a consumer, all I care about is the retail price point.

And the problem here is WxC aren't the right people to target. They're delivering a retail service using a cost plus pricing model. You really need to be asking Chorus, CFH or even the Communications Minister why Chrous are delivering a wholesale product at the pricepoint they are, and when these areas will be incorporated into the UFB model.

Laying the blame here solely with WxC is a bit like blaming your dairy for high milk prices. Sure they're making a margin, but it's a cost plus pricing model and there are wholesale costs for a product that a provider (or dairy) simply isn't going to sell products under unless they love losing money.

Fair point. But I think WXC should be putting pressure on their suppliers to keep their prices competitive, and customers happy.. It would be nice if they kept us posted on this to give us some light at the end of this very expensive tunnel.

Past experience shows when WxC staff get involved in these discussions they suffer abuse. I'm not surprised regarding their minimal feedback. They will post when there is new info available.

Me on the other hand got fibre installed down my road like 6 to 8 years ago but it is dark, can't be used as Telecom never switched it on. Would love to be in a trial site, use only 4GB per month but when I use it I want speed.

Has anyone any idea when the old "fibre" trial areas will be moved to the new UFB fibre?
You would assume they'd be first to go live on UFB, but the Chorus map with the UFB areas doesn't show them as being migrated withing the 1st year?

Come on World Exchange. I'm still paying almost twice what I'd be paying if I was able to choose another supplier. How long is it going to take to sort this ridiculous pricing out?

Nothing that they can do until the wholesale pricing from Chorus changes.

If I was you I would be hassling my local MP, TUANZ, InternetNZ and the ComCom to find out what they hell is going on with pre-exising estates with fibre trials.

Surely they should be first to be enabled with UFB pricing?

Don't keep blaming WxC - Chourus have a lot to answer for. They are the ones who set wholesale access prices for this fibre.

What have Chorus, your local MP, Communications Minister or anybody else said when you've contacted them to query the status of the BOP pricing? Haven't done that yet? IMHO criticising WxC like you continue to do isn't going to change anything.
