JonC: Rumour has it IE7's included in the latest update tonight / tomorrow - wonder how big that puppy will be?

I just downloaded IE7 RC1 last night... size is 14944kB

Not exactly lightweight, but I guess it could have been worse.

As a customer of Ihug-ADSL i just got an email "Keeping you in the Loop" advising of the sale of Ihug to Vodafone.
Interesting also in that email was a paragraph about upcomming new plans with higher speeds.

I've heard the term torrent before, but I have to admit that I have no idea what it means. As for Windows Update, I run it whenever prompted and whilst I've never taken any notice of its size, my total data usage has consistently been in the 1Gb-1.5Gb range over the last few months so it can't be that bad.

Have all those ads been a case of the emperor's new clothes?

Or is circuit-switched voice one-fone, wireless office, integrated talk zone, just yesterday's news?

you all know that packet switched apps (including voice) are where it's at, and businesses know it too. the media have reported telecom trials of all-ip households and fibre to the door and how many companies do you know that have "thrown away" their landlines knowing they will shortly just be an add-on to their IP data network?

Does this mean an "all we do is mobile" strategy is evidence of redundant thinking?

DVD quality video on demand, business grade video-conferencing - does any mobile network have the bandwidth for that? In the real world?

So how DO you Mobilise (TM) a DSL modem?

I think that this will have some great benefits.
A large player can create some good cross-sell opportunities.

They must focus on what they're good at and continue to deliver them.
Just think of the Paradise net - Saturn TV - Telstra phone service combo.
It started well when I lived in the area. The service desk had a few jitters but the price and volume was great.
(Okay the tv hardware isn't as good as the Sky kit)

Take a look at the Kapiti section of the Wellington white pages.
40-50% of the locals have Telstra numbers. Free calls to Wellington.

Voda should be able to do something great with the delivery and services for Ihug.
