Thanks for the link - it was posted before in this discussion and in another thread.

YouTube is still having its ups and downs for me. Might have to wait and see.

The last 24hours on youtube have been fantastic for me ..... everything except 1080p will play instantly with no buffering right to the end of the video.

Was actually really surprised to see it still going so well today as well. Really enjoying catching up on all the videos I've been wanting to watch ..... just watched an RC boat doing 140kmph in 720p no delay, no buffering ! ... fantastic !

Warpspeed Cable in Christchurch.

I had a look at that link.

Can any other TelstraClear users confirm they're getting similar numbers?

If so, wow. Good on YouTube for showing these numbers, now I have something to point TelstraClear at, no more hiding behind "other users are not experiencing this issue" :)

Your results for ADSL?

Our figures are higher (cable, Wellington northern suburbs)

Looks like that cache is finally working. Been getting great speeds tonight. I'd forgotten what it was like to watch a youtube video without buffering for 5 minutes.

You don't choose a book by its cover but it does determine which ones you read.

Yep, I'm on ADSL2.

But since the HomePlan switchover, nothing but pain.

I haven't been following this thread recently, but I just tried to watch a video and was amazed to see it load quickly. Maybe it really has been fixed!

Yes it's been working really well for us at home too (ADSL2 in Auckland)

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

Placebo effect, folks? The caches are installed but according to TelstraClear they are not in "production mode" yet:

"Caches installed our end, still waiting for Google to do their thing. ^CM" (http://twitter.com/telstraclearnz/statuses/13449291329)

That's one hell of a placebo effect! I just watched a 720p YouTube video and the entire video had finished buffering before I had got 20 seconds into it. The speed test video at 720p streams between 5 and 9mbps. That wasn't possible a couple of weeks back, so if the cache isn't live yet, then there's something else fixing it.

Don't quote me on that, but... Tin foil hats on!

TelstraClear has had some problems with International traffic (something to do with Reach Global Services, owned by Telstra?)... These problems were happening for some time, and also at the same time as the new Google cache being installed.

Now from what I've noticed the YouTube problem is not gone. It works well sometimes, and sometimes is not good enough. So perhaps there's something there about "Google has to do something". Or not, and it could be a blame game, while they sort out the Reach problem.

Who knows for sure? Where are talking TelstraClear, so it's all wild speculation...

Looks like it's working

Tracing route to cache.l.google.com [203.97.30.152] over a maximum of 30 hops:

3 7 ms 4 ms 4 ms 203.97.28.45
4 14 ms 12 ms 12 ms gi-4-0-879.u22.telstraclear.net [218.101.61.142]
5 11 ms 11 ms 11 ms ae1-948.domestic.ie3.telstraclear.net [218.101.61.61]
6 12 ms 11 ms 11 ms 203.97.30.131
7 11 ms 11 ms 12 ms 203.97.30.152

I presume google/youtube do ISP detection and prefer to serve video using urls that they know resolve to a local cache, so that's probably what they need to configure at their end... seems to already be be doing that though.

According to a recent email from TelstraClear "The time has come to vote for the 2010 NetGuide People's Choice Awards."  I'm not so sure I want to vote for them this year mainly because of the YouTube issues.

Are they fixing the YouTube problem only now because they want our votes?

Just a note folks... If you are using a third party DNS (OpenDNS, DynDNS Internet Guide, and others) then your network/PC won't get the IP for the local cache at TelstraClear.

I have tested with Google DNS and NSLookup seems to be clever enough to return the correct address.
