invisibleman18: ... Will keep an eye on this thread to see if things improve. They have started digging for fibre in out street this week so probably better off seeing whether we could get consent from all the neighbours to get it first.

Get to work on the neighbours - this can take months to sort out, so shop early for Christmas smile

Fibre is better than cable - even when cable works well - as it did last year.

Yeah, made a bit more complicated by it being 4 houses with 4 different owners and I believe only one of them is owner occupied so going to need people to be bothered enough to pass it onto their landlords too. If cable was good enough it would save this hassle.

... and if cable is not good enough you pay Early Termination Fees to cancel your 12-month cable contract - $399 from memory.

$199 the guy said last night although still don't want to be paying that. If you were just moving to something else with the same ISP they wouldn't still charge that though would they? Think it will just be best to stay with ADSL until we can get fibre.

My connection tonight is up to 95/10 - first time in months. Still timing out on international sites - Twitter, Google Analytics but loading from a NZ-based CDN or server seems a lot better than usual.

Not completely fixed obviously and some to go but the first time I've seen this speed in months.

80/10 Tonight. But then I was in the good speeds bracket anyway - frequent timeouts on plenty of sites still.

Not available at our address. Just ADSL and cable. Didn't actually realise cable was - wrongly assumed there would have to be installation and a hassle to get consent from everyone when we moved in so just went with ADSL (our landlord thought so too). Would probably have got cable from the start if I realised the house was already connected.

8:40 PM. I don't think I've ever seen these speeds at this hour since I've lived here, and it's a massive improvement from the horror show that took place during this last week.

Maybe. Just maybe. *crosses fingers*

EDIT: Looks like international bandwidth is still pretty ugly, and I'm seeing some fluctuation still. But at least it's more usable than most nights.

Yes, as I said it's a national improvement at the moment, it seems.

I'm noticing videos are stuttering tonight, even SD content on Facebook.

Things definitely aren't better. In fact, they've gotten worse. Again.

YouTube's badgering me about experiencing interruptions; pages are taking an eternity to load; and international bandwidth remains barley over a hundredth of advertised speeds.

Additionally, people are complaining about Steam download speed in New Zealand. It's not (entirely) related to this issue, but it likely is still the fault of Vodafone since they're the only peer left in this country. I personally started experiencing those problems during the Steam sale, where I would sometimes fall to a whopping 2 KB/s or less (yes, dial-up would have been a significant improvement). Fortunately, switching to an Australian peer gets me up to better speeds, but they're still a far cry from what they used to be.

First day with Vodafone cable. Am on 100/10. Speeds were great during the afternoon, but I've noticed a hit after around 7PM.

8.30PM:

I guess I should be okay with it, considering how some people are getting <5Mbps.
