Hey awesome, so then I can port away, and then back and they will have to give me a plan.. wooo, im sick of the unexplained missing credit and no way of finding where it went that prepay brings.

Comparing number portability in the USA and NZ is just stupid because there is virtually nothing in common between the two markets. The USA doesn't have CPP for mobile and also had a vast number of local carriers who all operate in their own markets.

Look closer to home in say Australia and you'll see it's worked perfectly since 2001 with only a few small issues.

Really? The point is that it just gets to complicated to keep track of who's on what network.

Yes, as in the USA they do not use prefixes as far as I am aware. For example in Hawaii the local area code is 808. Both mobiles and landlines share the 808 code, so even telling the difference between landlines and mobiles is difficult. Perhaps some one can confirm this, or correct me on this through??

Caller pays the same rate if its a mobile or landline. Receiver of call pays the difference (ie. landline free, callphone will incur a charge)

Yep, same in Brazil. The only giveaway is a 9 (digit nine) in front of a number, indicating it's a cellular line. Otherwise they share the same area code with a city/town - and all cellular operators on that area have the same area code as a consequence.

Yea ok but remember in the US, calling a cellphone is 100 times cheaper than calling a cellphone in NZ!!

Even called party pays on the cellphone incoming calls, with the frequent unlimited nights and weekends, and with plans measuring their minutes in the thousands, it doesn't really matter.

I would much rather that then the current calling party pays at exorbitant rates we have at the moment. Perhaps eventually porting a local number to cell and it working like that will be available.

I got a letter from Vodafone back in November last year clearly saying that I OA customers wouldn't be elft in the dark. I posted this letter on these forums.

Nothing has happened since that date: 4 months ago.
