patdude123: Has anyone seen the list of voda services post paid ported 027 numbers wont have access to??? Its all bit of a mess really... I wonder how long it'll take them to fix this mess up???

I'd imagine the Commerce Commission will be taking a close look at Vodafone's performance here. I beleive a key aspect of number portability is "service equivalence", that is, an in porting number may neither be discriminated against or in favour.

And they had months and months and months and months to sort this out

Watch this space?

But then again, patdude123, do you really think the ComCom would care (much less intervene), if this discrimination against a company's favour is of their own doing?  (Ie:  Vodafone doing a disservice to themselves, by rejecting new customers to join one of their own services-Prepay).....

A term in the english volcabulary is....  "Suicidal" (Dictionary meaning: Destruction of one's interest or prospects)...

Hmm, Vodafone committing suicide, would the ComCom be right to step in?  I think not....

Agreed!  It's a very long list which would mean serious limitations for any unfortunate "027" Voda customers.

It makes me wonder how serious Voda are about attracting Telecom customers who might be thinking of jumping ship.

Apart from needing to buy a new phone, there are PLENTY of reasons for jumping in the other direction.

There's been a lot of talk here about whether voda would get in trouble with the comcom for not supporting porting to prepay but as was correctly pointed out earlier their only legal obligation was to provide porting out, so they could have not supporting porting in to postpay and still met their obligations. Clearly that would not be a very smart thing to do.

However their offering is clearly less than ideal with no porting to prepay and the above limitations around all the web based services listed above.

The reason? Everyone is waiting for bestmate on postpay, but that requires the new billing system. No new billing system, no best mate. And there was talk of the new billing system being needed for number portability, so if they did all the work for number portability assuming the new billing system was in place and then at the last minute it wasn't then they would have a significant issue on what solution they could put in place.

My guess is that this is the root cause of this substandard offering.

adamj: Can you get VFX without buying their equipment yet?

In what way? You don't need to buy equipment from them, any of their supported Linksys devices can be used so it doesn't matter where you source the hardware.

I just want a softphone. I just want to divert the number to my mobile

Borrow someones unlocked PAP2 (or just their MAC address) that will never be used by them on VFX, use tha MAC address, sign up, use the web config to make your number divert, and you are away laughing.

Would it be possible to get someone at wxc to do the setup and instigate the fowarding without the access to a device? I am waiting to get asterisk support, but in the interum I could set up fowarding to my italk number (hopefully caller id will come in intact) and then once I can get asterisk talking to wxc I will port italks number to it since the clowns at slingshot dont want my business.

I have asked a few shops (Trying impossibly to find a GENUINE Nokia car charger, ugh) about how many customers that have had coming in, the 1 vodafone shop + a delaer have said 1, The 4 Telecom shops seem to have about 1- 15 a day, remember it's early days.

I like VFX but the whole "locked equipment" thing scared me off and I stayed with iTalk. (I have a simple but awesome and very small ATA, a Grandstream Handytone 286)

I like my 974 number anyway, it screams "i'm on something else" not like all the plebs with "boring" localized numbers!

You can forward calls to a SIP address or a phone number, so you could just forward the calls directly to Asterisk - ofcourse that wouldn't really help for outgoing calls...

I dont think the com com should concern themselves with whether this is a good business decision or not from Vodafones perspective. They should look at whether this is a good decision from the customers point of view. I say they should involve themselves and make Vodafone open NP to prepaid. The intention of NP is to give customers choice, Vodafone are playing by the letter of the ruling but hardly to the intention - I say force them, its the ComCom way.

Why should they care? It's obvious Vodafone don't want the business. If I was a consumer looking to take my business away from Telecom I'd take one look at Vodafone, realise they're not interested in my custom at all and move on. The Commerce Commission are there to protect customers from dodgy companies. What Vodafone are doing isn't dodgy, it's just plain crazy from a business decision but isn't breaking any laws.

The point is not whether V are making a good business decision or not. Comcom dont and shouldnt care. What they should be doing is making sure that this ruling means ALL customers have FULL choice and clearly they dont.

It is obvious Vodafone see no value in having 027 prepaids - why should NP suit them, it should suit the customer.

Does anybody know whether porting 021 Prepay -> 027 -> 021 On Account works? Surely somebody must have tried it!

It should work - see no reason why it shouldn't but why would you want to go prepay 027 Voda? half their services dont work and they only seem to reward pre-pay customers with the better offers - Why should I have to buy a new handset and sign up as a new customer to get txt2000 - what a crock!

I have heard that Vodafone can now offer non-coded access for Voda calls. Can any one else confirm this?  I assume that if this is the case, then you won't need a CTU to call Talk Zone Zero calls. I wonder if you can get "non-coded access" on i-Talk or World Exchange VFX - so you wont need an IP CTU?

It's my understanding it wont. 021 number ranges are locked in to whichever "plan" they are on. Meaning, Prepay number ranges cannot change to On Account, and vice versa.

There's no such restriction with Telecom. So, if you take an 021 prepay to Telecom, and then change to an account plan, to go back to Voda you would have to change back to prepay. Or change number.

Yes Caller ID does stay intact Wink,  we do require a Mac address though as this is the basis of the account setup

Yes I am a employee of WxC (My Profile) ... but I do have my own opinions as well Wink
