Both usernames vodafone and Admin work. Admin allows editing of a bunch more settings.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Hey Tommy,

Just found you can limit bandwidth by device! It's a little hidden. On the start page you can go to "My Network" or something. It gives you a visual map of the network. Now you can click on a machine and enter a max download limit.

As for passwords.... the hack seems to be analog to the HG556a hack. So this works for me:
Username - Admin
Password - VF-NZhg659
(both case sensitive!!!)

I have set up VoIP but can't yet verify if it works as my line install is on the 10th. Will let you know.

I did buy a Linksys P2P though just in case. That works fine on old ADSL now.

Cheers Oliver

The Huawei HG658c (Note, not HG659) has a very very similar set of specs and appearance so might help some people. I suspect it's the base of the HG659 from what I can see and read.

See here for the manual.

See here for the quickstart guide.

Speed only from what I can see.

I'm getting my VDSL tomorrow so then I will see if VoIP works.

I have had no luck with the VOIP on the HG659 All the info appears correct in the VOIP settings I can't get my 2talk to connect.

Diagnostics says:

Registering with VoIP number 09....... to Register server sip.2talk.co.nz failed: Reason: no answer from remote station received.

Have a look how to activate on the HG556a. There is a step where you telnet into the box. Google it.

Have you done this on the 659? It appeared that telnet was disabled when I tried that.

Here is a question for you, before you purchased the hg659 did VF say that the SIP ports were locked to VF or in some way disabled?

I have had no luck myself in terms of VOIP.
The modem is sold as a VDSL/UFB RGW, WiFi compliant. It isnt sold as a VOIP enabled device. It has ports for this service for use of Vodafone VOIP.

No we cant use telnet like the HG556a and do the same, This is as far as you get into it:

The error it throws back after correctly configuring the VOIP is it cant register. It does seem its hard-coded to the device and built into the firmware unlike the HG556a where it just had a hidden on button. Maybe the Huawei learnt from that, I am not sure. But so far no joy with VOIP.
