Thanks guys, stats as Dylan reports and connection now stable - all good.
FYI - I sorted out the HG659 - should have paid closer attention to the instructions, I was using the default login provided on the device vodafone/vodafone. But there is a second login Admin/VF-NZhg659 that let me make changes to the internet connection. All good now.
