I am on a you choose mega plan. Lately vodafone released an offer where it would charge me $2 for 30mins talk to hong kong. I thought thats nice but after being charged $6 i realise it was for landline numbers only.
That simply stinks. Its a promotion that tricked me

I have skype, xnet vfx and hk2bn

My father payed about $150nz for a two year subscription for the hk2bn . It is a software like skype but i get a free hk local number. It is free for me to call to any hk number and since i also receive a hk number people can also ring me for free.

I mainly use vfx over xnet to make landline calls within nz

Vodafone just doesnt offer enough. Their plans are expensive with little offer to customers.
20 off peak minutes for $20 and $15 for just 100mins is still too expensive.
Dont get me on with their data plan. Luckily my mobile has wireless otherwise i would be seeing a charge of $10 today

When I came to NZ with my MotoRazr V3i which I had bought in India, I saw Vodafone selling prepay SIM Cards which can be used in my phone as I do in India. And whoever I asked here, everyone had Vodafone and with no other research, I bought Vodafone supa prepay card.

The same went with Vodem. Telecom too had 3G, but the plans were not suitable for me at all. Vodem on the other hand had 3GB plan which was excellent. Again, I chose vodafone.

So, what are my results?

I like Vodafone network coverage. It seems to be good. But there are more problems if someone calls from overseas. Most of the time my parents who call from India say they dont get my number or it goes to wrong person or it just keeps ringing (but doesn't go to voice box). Here is my latest experience - I had an interview last week with an overseas company. They had told me they would call at 7 pm NZ time. I didn't get any call and it was 10 pm NZ time! I emailed them regarding this. I was shocked to hear the reply. They told they had called to my mobile, I answered, told them to wait for 10 mins and never returned and the interviewer says that he did dialled to my mobile number

. I really hate Vodafone for these kinda things. Still my parents find it difficult to reach me. But yes, I have to contact the Vodafone Customer Care about this, I haven't yet.

Regarding Vodem - though its not a "great great" service, its good and if you are at right place (where signals are good) Vodem is really good. For example, If I be in Dunedin George Street (which is the main place in Dunedin) I get 180-250 kbps download speed, but the same If I come to my home (which is just 1 1/2 kms from George Street) I get only 80-120 kbps download speed

Vodafone sucks? I dont think they are, but they are "OK"

if your parents are having issues calling from india to nz the issue should be logged with the a party carrier not the b party. Your parents are paying a provider in india not vodafone nz. Vodafone nz could not trace the calls backwards.

Well, the company I mentioned in my post is from Denmark

And yes, my friends who are in Vodafone India too get the same result. But, if they call to Telecome Landline, there are no issues at all.

Do you have a prepay with 8 digits after the 021? Seems that they still have issues with some international calling cards when people are calling from mexico with similar things about wrong numbers or calls just not connecting.

Also its now very hard to find 7 digit ones. This year we had to go to 3 stores before we found a run of them to get for some foregn students. Then had to get phones since movistar mexico dont seem to feature on any unlock providers lists.

No, I have prepay with 7 digits after the 021
