Large organisations are like a huge ocean liner - ...

Having worked there, if Vodafone NZ was an ocean liner it would consist of several smaller ships tied together roughly trying to head in the same direction with a single captain but because of dated charts and navigation systems each ship would head off course somewhat slowing progress of the combined unit.

Passenger comfort would be low on the priority list of the cruise line that owns the ships, despite the best efforts and intentions of the majority of the crew.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

I thought something was afoot when I saw that his account on GZ had been disabled- whether it's related or not, I don't know. But very disappointed to hear Vodafone's direction.

John helped me out a lot with various Vodafone queries and I resigned my contract multiple years in a row mainly due to him and his assistance he gave.
He also helped out a number of times with our corporate account when we were having signal issues in town and issues with SIM cards- to the point we even had a team of Engineers come on site and start diagnosing issues! This type of response was not initiated via our corporate manager because they kept telling us "there was no problem! It must be the handset!" (despite over 20 people or so experiencing issues..)

But either way, I wish John the best of luck with whatever is next for him. He really lived the image of Vodafone in my opinion and without trying to sound dramatic about the whole thing, I will definitely be reconsidering whether I resign or not when it's up for renewal. Thanks for all the help, John, if you're reading this!

I wonder if he got a Dear John letter

any company dropping talented people for outsourced no nothings should be shot and I hope John sticks around here even if it's not in an official ISP type capacity

That was in bad taste, but I am sorry to say, I still laughed out loud :)

(At the joke, not the situation, obviously).

This should really be in the Vodafone forum so they can have a look at it.

On a side note, wish John all the best in his future endeavours!

Would most likely get blocked there.

He left here ages ago... Mainly because of abuse he was getting from new people that didn't know, or care, that this isn't a VF support channel, and he was helping in his own spare time.

And they are trying to attach more ships to the mess before even understaning how the ones they already have work. When the new ships prove to be too useful they will stop letting new people board them and make them board the old ships that are barely functional.

Oh I meant on the Vodafone forum instead of the Off Topic forum here on Geekzone.

Sad news indeed; I was going to ask if JohnR did leave these forums as I hadn't seen in a while, but someone has already answered that question

I am speechless (well almost) But I will say I have worked for Vodafone for 14 years and once my paths crossed with John I knew any issue I had would get resolved asap. He has been my go to person for years. I feel like I am in mourning and he hasn't even left yet.

But enough about me. I wish John all the best and know with out a doubt he will find an awesome role for some lucky company and again be the over achiever - as always.

Although centred around John, the discussion shouldn't forget the other 40 or so employeed that have the same fate.

Do we know where the other people were? As in, was it all of John's team? If so, that means it was my old team - outsourcing all those people will be ... interesting ... for Vodafone.

It'll be the same fate as somebody else I know who worked for Vodafone. Get made redundant, get asked back as a contractor with more dollars because they can't survive without you. Beancounters don't know technology.
