That assumption is about as far from the truth as you can get.

Quality of a VoIP call is identical to that of analogue - it uses the very same G.711 codec as existing TDM voice calls and you'll have the very same MOS scores in a well engineered network.

There are already large numbers of people using Chorus PSTN emilation via the ISAM-V cards who would be completely oblivious to the fact they're on VoIP not a NEAX.

I would of thought the codecs were different or just a long copper line degrades the voice call.

Example being I changed my parents over from POTS to Spark Wireless which uses VoIP over LTE, they were very quick to say the sound qual of calls big time improved.

Possibly less static or interference than that of a copper line, I’m sure it’s still only G711 or G729, could be wrong @sbiddle will know for sure

@colinuu Why is VoLTE they key for you? 3G does HD voice as it is now

We trialled the phone over RBI internet connection. So the connection drops back to 3G with each voice call (a nuisance if you're working the internet at the time), with associated delays in call establishment, and then doesn't always return to 4G afterwards. And our experience has been mixed in terms of the voice quality. It seems that voice over 4G would be the answer...

Might be worth getting a new install with a better monitoring plan I’m thinking

It is also worth noting here that the original plans for the NEAX shutdowns were to have most customers migrated to VoIP by around 2009 and that got pushed back to 2013-2014 and now it's subsequently pushed back further.

Alarm companies have been milking it for a long time selling antequated hardware and focusing on cheap analogue monitoring. Pioneers like alarmnz were pushing the IP world 10+ years ago. Even as late as 2-3 years ago there were major alarm monitoring companies that still didn't support IP based connectivity.

If you're happy paying for monitoring for at least a couple of years your best bet may be to approach somebody offering deals for a term contract - you can probably get a free modern panel fitted in return which won't mean any up front cost.

I see that they going still charge additional cost for likes of caller id call minder call waiting . All these on voip are just click mouse items that server generates. $12.95 for those items is rip off . I know of other providers doing same that they included at no charge in most case and the voice message service has push to email feature I bet vodafones doesn't.

One of the reasons I am staying on POTS if vfone push the point 2talk here I come. And I note 2talk supply voicemail and other free features as part of the deal.

So got my letter today about been migrated to VOIP, took up offer of free phone which they are sending out which is great. Is the dedicated jack point for VDSL now the main line into the house from the street?. I have a wall where the main phone jack point is for landlines and am removing that wall I am hopeing that my VDSL will still work?. The wall isn’t the dedicated VDSL jackpoint I rang voda today they couldn’t give me an answer. How would I tell?
