Theoretically you could just cut the coax and terminate it with a load impedance the same as the line impedance (probably 75 ohm), then there will not be any reflected power (generated by the amplifiers) hitting the end of the cable when you cut it and travelling back down to the amplifiers again and/or other peoples houses.

So they came on Friday and removed the Vodafone HFC cable including the ETP, I'm not sure if it was Downer or other as I was in Auckland so my wife dealt with them. They did a good job leaving no trace behind.

 

Thanks for organising that @gaddman, I didn't expect it to happen that quick but definitely good for the future fibre install
