People say there is no .

I am just wondering how apple gets away with the way they control the pricing on their products in NZ, with NZ competition laws the way they are. I am not saying they are doing anything wrong, but from what I have read they appear to have a strong leash on the pricing, which other manufacturers don't do.

Also they must make bigger margins on that with ipod touches, as from time to time some retailers will discount the price of the 8GB ipod touch down to $299, and I have even seen one one day deal website retailer who had it for $249. They wouldn't be selling them at a loss, especially as the online retailer wasn't upselling it with other stuff.

they could be selling obselete stock. i.e. if a new model is coming out they need to clear out the old one, even if it means making a loss. The alternative is to have hundreds (or even thousands) of units of obselete stock sitting in a warehouse, costing money and with cash tied up in it, that is impossible to sell at full price because the new model is better and no more expensive.

its my understanding that if a contract is broken within the first 3 months the store that sold you the product will be clawed back for the hardware rebate, so if you paid $500 for a $100 handset then they get the $500 clawed back they are out of pocked for $500.

anyone correct me if im wrong.

No, the store is only clawed back the commission amount, not the rebate amount.

UNLESS the store processes it as a no sale, in which case the whole amount gets clawed back, but this would be a decision made by the store, not by someone via 777

FWIW the iPhone 3GS had a 3% margin, I imagine it will be similar with the iPhone 4.

so, the actual margin is more like $30 not the $2-$3 previously stated by Michael Murphy

AH no you are correct, we used to work it out in store as $3 since we would get 10% Commission >.<

I haven't had any phone calls or knocks on the door from debt collectors or digital mobile.

I will post here if this changes.

You could also go to digitalmobile.co.nz, go to the "Contact Us" page, and submit a comment / complaint on there about being threatened by a franchise, im sure they would be interested to know, considering its their name being dragged through the mud by these actions.
