Quinny: To get downloads I need better than "network lost" all the time. Regular issue damaged side of Chch (can loose signal in Sydenham, Ferrymead, Woolston let alone the Red zones East). Seriously looking at moving my phone to XT as any coverage is better than then being unable to fix cell towers in 6 months since the Feb quake. Pre Feb never had an issue and while speeds were not great they at least worked.

Coverage should be back to normal in the CHCH area can you please PM me some more detail about this so we can get it looked into, I can't PM you as it looks like you have this option disabled

Just ran it again to see if anything changed. Looking a bit better up in Whangarei, About .4mbit better up and down with 250ms less latency!

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

I have seen over 5Mbps download in the same location on my mobile, BUT that was at 5:00am in the morning.
I was so surprised, I almost opened both eyes to check.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10i v2.3.3 HSDPA 7.2Mbps (Cat 8)

Same location (different room), but this time standing on one foot and holding a wire coat hanger in my left hand.... (Just kidding)

All good. I'm more than happy if I can get 1Mbps+ using a standalone mobile phone (non-tethered).

Saturday night in Rototuna Hamilton (add plus 12 hours to GMT times, for actual test times). All tests done on Samsung GS2 as usual.

Beautiful day yesterday, so we went for a drive to Coromandel Township, very impressed with mobile data speeds here!!

Stopped off in Morrinsville on the way home for petrol. Not too bad at all with this result

Would it be fair to postulate, that a Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II with it's HSDPA 21Mbps and Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 proccessor would have a slight advantage in bandwidth over other smart phones.
This also extends to the signal strength available on a Samsung I9100 Galaxy which may be better.

For a start, my Sony Ericsson X10i v2.3.3 1Ghz (single core) HSDPA 7.2Mbps is never going to see a raw 8Mbps of bandwith. Probably wouldn't even see 7Mbps given windowing and flow control. Doh!.

Be interesting following the little elfs with their pixie dust and their magic SGII and see what bandwidth one gets in a simular location in Hamilton with my days of yore SE X10i

Did anyone notice the speed increase in mobile broadband speed increase in Vodafone network since this morning?

I've noticed that at my house Vodafone appear to have made some changes that have dramatically improved the data speeds.

As in my HTC Sensation blog post on data speeds, the XT network had been several times faster than Vodafone at my house.

As of the past week, the gap has shrunk HUGELY. Vodafone's 3G speeds on the HTC Sensation are averaging about 5.5mbps and the slowest reading I got was 4.5mbps..and the fastest was just a hair under 6mbps (5.964mbps). Still a wee bit slower than the average 8mbps I see on XT, but one heck of a lot better than the 1.5 - 2mbps I was seeing before.

Apparently, the VFNZ cell station near my house will be upgraded to HSPA+ after the RWC and I should see even better speeds, comparable with XT's.

Looking forward to that. My VFNZ Mobile broadband account will be loving it.

Richard above asked me to do some speed tests around Rotorua with the SGS2.

As I understand it, Rotorua doesn't have HSPA+ enabled on Vodafone and also I suspect that the sites below which are lower in speed is because they are not fibre fed.

So here we go:
