Foo: Thanks freitasm and sideface. Giving them a call now to get this resolved.

Remember that they'll probably be keen to get you off your grandfathered 130/10 plan, so before you call, you really need to decide whether the "extra" 30Mbps is worth $30 per month.

I'm aware of others on the 130/10 plan paying $109 a month

To be fair, a lot of 100 Mbps customers get "up to" 130 Mbps regardless, congestion notwithstanding. This was documented in the Truenet Broadband Reports, where customers on the 100 Mbps plan could get over 100% of advertised speed.

Vodafone Cable achieves over 100% because the 100Mb/s Cable plan is capable of speeds around 130Mb/s.

It's not common or unheard of for cable Internet providers to exceed advertised speeds when there aren't congestion issues. In the United States, we'd often get a few percent higher than advertised speed. Charter (and likely other providers) even had a "speed boost" feature where they'd bump your download speed up dramatically for the first few seconds of a download. This would make 30 Mbps connections get 60-70+ Mbps in speed tests and at the start of downloads. It helped dramatically speed up loading some web pages and downloading some files, and since it let some downloads complete in record time, it pushed people off the nodes quicker too. :)

I think this is in error. I don't think there's a "130/10" profile on Truenet and they put everyone in the 100/10 bucket.

I'm a TrueNet volunteer. I look at TrueNet stats and graphs every day.

I've been on 100/10 and 130/10, and my speeds (measured 24/7 for 2 years) have never exceeded the stated maximum - and this was before the current congestion problems.

I suspect that the reason that group statistics sometimes exceed 100Mbps is that the "100/10Mbps" group includes people on 130/10Mbps, pushing the average speed up.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I thought it was similar to what some of our ISPs did in the US, and based on the statement from Truenet.

I imagine that Vodafone will be implementing some massive upgrades if they hope to compete with UFB. Maybe they'll start pushing 130 Mbps (or more!) sometime after next month. Wishful thinking! :)

Hmmm, well Vodafone has credited my account but have explained that the price went up due to the one year contract I was on having now expired.

Apparently I need to sign back up for another year period in order to drop from $134.99 to $109. And the 130/10 plan doesn't exist any more and "won't work".

No problem with signing for another year, but would prefer to remain on 130 rather than move down to 100.

Sales team knock off at 8pm, so that's a chat for another day.

.. and that's how to "encourage" people to leave grandfathered plans wink

Hi, yes we call all 130 or 100 connections 100, because Vodafone only market the 100Mb/s service.

We are seeing some movement in performance in the last 3 days, so I thought it now worth sharing what we see.  It is not necessarily precise because each line represents just 3-4 tests pre dot, but you can see a trend.  During the period of issues all of our panelists have seen a similar performance variation, although some worse than others, the shape was common.

We are now seeing two groups, with some getting a little better performance at 9pm and a few others yet to see change.  Direct from our panelist tool - judge for yourself;

Two quick questions:

1) How's YouTube looking for everyone else? Even when getting 100+ Mbps on speed tests, YouTube has been a downright awful experience for the last few days. I've seen the "Experiencing interruptions?" message numerous times tonight, and I'm even getting buffering on 480p videos at times. I've had the flatmates complaining about this too (along with poor Imgur performance, especially at peak hours)
2) Sometime this week, our modem dropped to just one upstream channel, with the DPC3008's light turning amber instead of the normal green to indicate this. Has this occurred with anyone else? Or is this a separate issue that I should log a fault for?

I'm especially baffled by the atrocious video performance though. It's 9 PM on the dot and I'm getting a decent 85 Mbps, but YouTube is downright unusable.

I'm unable to stream Youtube or Netflix tonight.

Speedtest result as of 9.03 pm:

For the first time, upload is affected.

Location: Strathmore, Wellington

Edit: Supposed to be a 100/10 connection

YouTube is once again useless today even on full speed. Metal gear Solid V comes out in 10 minutes on PC, there was no preload on steam, so have to hit download when its released. Best be no issues there!
