paradoxsm: I have asked a few shops (Trying impossibly to find a GENUINE Nokia car charger, ugh) about how many customers that have had coming in, the 1 vodafone shop + a delaer have said 1, The 4 Telecom shops seem to have about 1- 15 a day, remember it's early days.

I like VFX but the whole "locked equipment" thing scared me off and I stayed with iTalk. (I have a simple but awesome and very small ATA, a Grandstream Handytone 286)

I like my 974 number anyway, it screams "i'm on something else" not like all the plebs with "boring" localized numbers!




Nothing scary paradoxsm, would love to have you try the service and see for yourself, were pretty open when it comes to working with our customers ( Can promise you we are not related to anyone on the dark side) , you might find a couple more features and niceties of the service that work a little bit better than the Granstream Box, don't have to press the hash key when you finish dialing your number Wink, + you can always port your number no problem at all, have moved a few of these already and we also don't like "Boring localized numbers"....

Does anybody know whether porting 021 Prepay -> 027 -> 021 On Account works? Surely somebody must have tried it!


Vodafone own the 021 numbers (even when ported). So if an 021 number ported to another network, becomes no longer ported, then I guess its then up to Vodafone what they want to do with it.

Anyway, that's my theory, and my guess is that that scenario would not work. I.E. once un-ported back to Vodafone, it would be back on pre-pay.

Though, if you do look through Vodafone's FAQ, it does appear they are planing moving numbers between OA & PP at some stage. Christmas I think, not sure which Christmas though.

Last I was told for swapping to an onaccount was first quarter of 07... ;)

Shame that the only telecom handsets that will take a ported number are expensive ones or I would be over there now.

Vodafone's director of customer care, Andrea Midgen, said research showed many prepay customers already had two phones, and were less likely to value their number than on-account customers.




Why not just tell the truth and say that our systems are so hopless and our new billing system is so far behind schedule that we are simply incapable of doing so? Telling the truth never hurt anybody.

Which poses the question as to why so many customers have two phones... And the answer is simply the fact neither Telecom or Vodafone are offering customers a deal they believe is so fantastic that they have no need to endure the hassle of carrying around two phones and remembering to charge two. Every $1 spend by a Vodafone customer on their Telecom phone is $1 less revenue that Vodafone should have had. If I had her job I would be doing my very best to ensure that my customers didn't feel the need to use a competitors network as well as my own by offering them products that represent value for money.

"Prepay will come later," Ms Midgen said.

In other words, we're too slack to update our billing system even though the commerce commission gave us 18 months.

Most people with 2 phones (myself included) simply can't afford to pay $1.50 per minute during the day when picking up the other phone we pay 50c a minute.
 
No doubt in a year Vodafone will trumpet the allowing of number portability to prepay, to wild celebration.

Vodafone/BellSouth over the years have made a number of screwups.  In '98 people on prepay couldn't even send texts!  There was that big fiasco with advertising when prepay came out, saying it required no ongoing costs when it actually did.

This would be up there with those.
