I mean, without a filter are we talking constant drop outs for all VDSL users on the cabinet, and 10-30Mbps sync reductions, or are we talking a 2-3Mbps sync reduction?

affects are low yes, i expect if you had a whole road of people causing crosstalk and such from this though, you would see a far worse affect on lines.

end of the day, not only is the potential of affecting other customers counted out for the most part by having a proper installation (be it a splitter, or a single jackpoint) you also likely to have a better line to play with too.

I suspect a neighbor has got a service without a filter on it. My sync went from 48Mbp/s to 43Mbp/s.

Going by sbiddles previous highly emotionally charged posts on the matter, one would be forgiven for thinking that the effect of bigpipe having a few vdsl customers around the country is only marginally less bad than the zombie apocalypse.

But of all we are talking about is a few Mbps, and only then for the customers who don't have/get a filter anyway, then I don't really see the issue. Seems like most people (except TimA of course :-p )wouldn't even notice the difference between, say, 25Mbps and 28Mbps

Yes, maybe if telecom or voda were doing it with tens of thousands of customers, but bigpipe is tiny and hasn't even started charging customers yet.

Heck, there have probably been more chorus fails on the install (like with the op) that go unnoticed than there are bigpipe customers on vdsl without a filter, and probably more old snap vdsl customers who signed up during the couple of years before filters were standard.
Just seems like an overreaction, if the effect really isn't all that big.

I'd welcome a synchronous service (if that is the right expression) with 30 up and 30 down.

I don't really understand why no one gives us decent upload speed, which I certainly would like as much as I like decent down.

I now have 3Mbps or so - a 300% increase - so yay for that, but if you want to back up 800Gb on line it would take quite some while at 3Mbps!

Agreed - but even if I replace the line to the Master Jack with new Cat 6 cable it won't raise my up figure from 3Mbps to 30Mbps will it?!

Why do we not get more up speed when up is just as useful as down? Who decided on the imbalance and why?

max your could hit would be 10mbit (as limited by the DSLAM.)

we live in a asymmetric world, everyone talks download speeds. ask anyone what their internet speed is, a good 90% of the time, they will only quote their download speeds.

while 10mbit seems alright for an 8b vdsl profile, when your hitting 17a, that would be capable of FAR more higher speeds..

unfortunately, chorus have set the limits at 70/10 and i highly doubt that will change any time soon..

in terms of your speeds though, normally upload speeds are commonly indicators of line issues, due to their position in the spectrum, distances doesnt hit it quite so badly (not as true for vdsl as with adsl, but same idea applys)

as i said earlier, looking at your stats, and what you moved from, there is room to be improved on in your line.

Your line stats are similar if not slightly better than mine and I'm getting 35/10 so I would assume you should be atleast closer to that than what your getting

However, SWMBO is murmuring about selling and moving in Spring so maybe not worth the expense of fixing the wires just now.

It's still a lot better than it was!

im sure there could be a slightly easier way of routing the cable, might just not be as clean as running it via the roof, but could work none the less.

they dont have master filters installed as part of the vdsl installation, which can be pretty destructive to the customer themselves experience, and others in the same cable bundle as them. to many respects, its certainly by no imagination the smartest move.

ild hate to see an influx of people looking for a cheap vdsl connection rolling to them, then being upset when they are told they should go ask coffeebarron for a splitter, because their line obviously is in dire need of it (which honestly, every line without one is, to many respects.)

That doesn't make sense because Chorus require Connection & Wiring with every VDSL install and its free we have to put it in when submitting in their database so I am not sure how their customers aren't getting the correct install.

Well, you need to go from the furthest corner of the tilly room, across that room about 6 metres, through a solid concrete block wall into the kitchen, across the kitchen to a solid concrete wall directly opposite where you came in - another6 or 7 metres in a straight line, much more if you need to go around the room, then through that wall into the office and along a wall another 6 metres or so.

The floor is also solid concrete so you can't go under that.

It really isn't an easy house to wire!

It's normal to me but I agree atypical generally here in NZ!

The steel reinforcing rods in the walls also create something of a Faraday Cage as far as wi-fi penetration goes!
