gmball: Can anyone advise if a Nokia 6288 3G is compatible?, I see that the Nokia 6234 is compatible and as far as I am aware both of these phones have the same operating sys and both are 3G?

As long as your phone is 3G, it will work

and also they will give u a new simcard too

I haven't seen anywhere where it states "as long as your phone is 3G, it will work" It appears this service uses the SIM SDK, so maybe not all 3G phones will work. The 6288 is not listed here: https://vodafonenz.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/vodafonenz.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=6477&p_sid=7m7*NE7j&p_lva=6452# so it quite possibly won't work.

well i have sony ericsson W660i

I have joined this add-on today. (it will take 5 days to activate)....

as far as i know, my phone can accept this 256k simcard...., so if my phone can work, your phone should able to accept this new simcard

Well tried to get it up and running today, think i was (or felt like i was) the first one in Welly to sign up for it, the rep ... has asked me to come back tomorrow with luck it will be sorted by then, i don't mind as long as it runs right the first time .... have to admit felt sorry for the rep in the vodafone store i went to as they seemed to not have been given all the sign up info about the service.....

Just a little update, have it up and running now due to some great work by the vodafone rep on the phone to Voda CS and hummm what can i say seems to work great, .... so far ... think its going to get coverage right down to my coffee shop on the lyall bay waterfront :)

The "Homezone" product that o2 Germany introduced nine years ago today (i.e. July 1, 1999) works in a similar fashion: You enter your address into a web form, and the company's coverage database is used to establish which cells at which cell sites point at your local zone. All calls that connect from those cells are considered local. o2 guarantee the zone to cover a radius of at least 500m, but in practice, this zone is often a whole lot bigger -- mine was several square kilometers, because the landscape was flat and I lived a few hundred metres from the nearest cell.

My powers of speculation tell me that Vodafone's service is likely to go the same way... maybe.

Sorry, I don't understand. A SE W660i is not a Nokia 6288. 256k SIMs have been out for a while now, so yes, the SIM will work in your phone, but not necessarily the the 'local zone' application within (assuming there is some sort of app on the SIM - hence the need for a 256k version). If it worked on all 3G phones, why would Vodafone publish a limited list of 'compatible handsets'?

well they said my phone is working and my phone is not the list of compatitable phone from vodafone... so that will give u a hints that it will work...

Not impressed so far, made a local call from within my zone (it even said LZ on the screen) - and was charged for it. The caller ID at the place I called showed my mobile number.

Called 0800 189 189 and they told me they can't access the account, and put me through to the normal customer service. Normal customer service told me to call 0800 189 189. Yay.

Is there any truth to this, if so, when can we expect an official announcement from VF?

This is funny. Having worked in the technology industy, we were discussing this or at least a very similar product over 10 years ago.

At that time, we were contemplating the weird situations, such as walking out of range of the base station during a call and vice versa. Little details such as that how it will be billed.

Not that I've seen any mention of.

Any updates on whether this was possible? Ideally when one phone is on you-choose (as reqd by product) and other on corp account....
