Hopefully we'll see some interesting offers come out from the other providers now that Vodafone has made this move, because it's a pretty damn good deal, even if you just go by the provided data rates and exclude the 1.2Mbps unlimited data option.

I live in hope that Spark will come to the party and do something similar or better, especially since they have capacity to burn (RWC upgrades, etc). The current plans feel very out of date

I feel 7.5gb for $80/month leaves a lot to be desired.

Well, it turns out that Vodafone's customer service via Twitter is pretty good and my plan change is done.

It's still a bit of a shame to have to waste staff time on a simple task that should be possible via self service.

Agreed. I see Spark are offering three months half price to match VF/2D... but the core plans are still heavily reliant on Spotify/Lightbox to add value as the actual inclusions are outdated.

I think it could be interesting if one of our telcos emulated what VF in the UK have done. Plans are all unlimited but throttled by speed (no soft data cap). Lowest plan is 2 Mbps, then 10 Mbps then unlimited.

I'm genuinely surprised we've gone this long without any other providers even posturing a retaliation. I'd assume that the marketing guys would be getting hammered by customer retention by now...

Just gave my 30-day notice for both mobiles on Spark. CSR asks why I’m changing, to which I said the value at Voda is now light years ahead and she just replied with a massive sigh

Were Vodafone the first to switch to simply offering Internet free terms for handsets?? It always did my head in that you would sign up for 24 months to get a "free" phone and a large proportion of users would just roll over and stay on the same plan so the provider was creaming it. I decided years back after looking retrospectively at my plans that the free phones were working out to be quite expensive so I just ordered my Iphone 6 direct from apple and went on Open Term plans which were quite competitative at the time. More recently I got me iphone 8 on interest free terms.

Now this new plan system is a lot more up front and honest rather than trying to continue selling "Unlimited" plans with fair use policies that really mean limited plans with a set usage where throttling kicks in. I like the way Vodafone have gone and hopefully the others will follow suit with up front simple plans with a full speed allowance and then throttling as its generally actually very difficult to go without any data at all these days - If nothing else for Find my droid / Find my iphone as muphy's law says that if you are going to lose your phone it'll be when your data has run out and you can't track it.

I don't regret switching to 2D when I did as its all working very well - Today I had a 53 minute call on Facetime audio that was flawless while driving from one side of the city and back whereas with Vodafone it would have cut out at least twice completely and had periods of one direction audio 6 - 10 times.

The reality is that if these plans had launched a week earlier I probably would have just stayed with the devil I know as this would have filled the gap in my plans.

I’d say I agree with your first statement. This proposition feels a lot more transparent than the old unlimited plans (plus much cheaper).

In terms of the second I’m fairly sure 2degrees introduced us to mobile repayment when they launched MRO in... maybe 2013? 2014?

Just switched 25 business plans across to this new unlimited deal, previously on Red Business Lite.

Went from $51 (+GST) per connection with 10GB data to $38 flat rate per connection with 40GB data (before throttling).

Fantastic deal, and a no-brainer to change plans. Open term so if something changes there’s no lock-in.

Well done VF.

Out of interest is monthly with VF really monthly (billed the same day every month) or 30 days? At some stage I'll be forced off skinny direct, the skinny plans at $36 per 28 days make it actually $39 monthly, so this deal seems pretty attractive if it's really monthly.

I’ve also just given my 30 days notice to Spark today, will just have to make it work without eSIM. Shame Spark haven’t done anything to respond to Vodafone’s new plans and/or aren’t willing to put more effort in to retaining existing customers.

I see both Spark and Vodafone currently offering first three months half price. Asked if they could please match that and was flatly told the system wouldn’t allow any promo for an existing customer. Shame as I actually would have stayed had Spark put literally any effort into retention.

Oh well, Vodafone’s gain. I imagine they’ll pick up quite a few customers in the next little while. And I suppose we’ll see what Spark do in the next 30 days.

I would expect Spark to respond so I'm staying put for now but not forever.

It does bring back the memory of Telecom introducing unlimited $10 text, took Vodafone years and years to respond.

I bit the bullet and jumped from my old Red plan (unlimited minutes/txts, 10GB data, $50/month) to the largest new plan w/ 100GB at $100/month ($50/month for the first 3 months.)

Hopefully by the end of the 3 months Spark may have a competitive offer which includes Spotify and maybe Neon, Netflix etc. Otherwise I should be fine to drop down to Vodafones $60/month plan, and then push for a $10 discount.

I don't consider using 2Degrees as I found their network was about 30% the speed of Vodafone's from my work (CBD) and home locations.
