So now the question that I find pertinent is: what is Vodafone's position with regard to the actions of this DM franchise? VF are clearly aware of the behaviour, whether they do or don't support it should be clarified.
A story like this represents a truck load of fail on behalf of VF and DM. Obviously VF has seen your post, so why haven't they called you? It would probably take a few minutes to touch base, but instead they're prepared to wear the resulting image of a company that really doesn't care.

Either way, you pay more to buy from Vodafone and instantly disconnect than to buy directly from the Apple store.

Looking back at when the 3GS was sold last year, the ETC's looked like they were reviewed after they found out that people were using this technique of buying iPhones on contract and cancelling them as it was actually cheaper to do that then buy the iPhone outright. The ETC's increased for the first cancellation period by a huge amount.
