For me its not working very well, i changed to the telstraclear steam server and 9 games wanted to redownload for some reason, now they will sit on either 0 bytes or suspended, and changing servers doesnt do anything, havent used any tools to stop the other connections either

geek4me: Thanks ipsi. I downloaded Forsaken World which must not yet be on the TCL Content Server. I'm using XP Pro. If anyone knows the firewall rule for XP I'd appreciate you posting it here.

XP Pro doesn't seem to have the capability to enter complex firewall rules. However I am running Avast Internet Security and I used these NOD32 instructions to create a firewall rule for TelstraClear.

Annoyingly though Avast interferes with game update installations, so it has to be disabled sometimes if Steam does not get past 1% updating.

Has the TelstraClear Steam server been officially launched? I put my details in on the TelstraClear Steam page to be notified, but no email or phone call yet. The page has been updated, and looks complete.

As did I. I actually did it just to see if they would in fact send an email out, as they never have for such things in the past (or have done so late - TBox anyone?). How surprising!

No it is not complete yet. An email will be sent out once the full capacity has been loaded on to the servers by Valve.

The modded steam manager tool by someone on the on3 site seems to work well. It's set and forget and if the game is not yet loaded on the server it says steam is busy try again later. I am 10 blocks over this month already so can't wait for this to be complete. I somehow doubt this will save me any money though, i will just end up buying more

I think that's just that Steam traffic is only unmetered if it comes from TelstraClear's Steam server. You can't (properly) force Steam to use only that server, so you will undoubtedly still use up some of your cap from Steam downloads.

Interestingly, I've yet to receive the email.

Steam might select different servers, automatically. If you are not using TelstraClear's own server then it will be counted. Read the discussion from the start to find out about software that can "lock" your client to a specific server.

Well, it's definitely not finished loading yet - I've still got nearly 30 games to download, all of which are giving me the 'Server is too busy' error...

just wishing to know, ive been downloading alot of my steam games, and have notice that im getting charged for blocks (over cap) and i know i havent download anything else during these times. how much out of 100% does this work. ive done good, i download over 60gigs of games and i went up 10-12 block. can i call Telstra and ask them look into it more? or is it, a try your luck sort of thing. I loaded up steam clicked on download game, and then once downloading i click play game with shows me a screen with the telstra clear logo. my understand is that once i see this logo im downloading from them and all is good!

Drilling into the hourly usage view, we noticed big peaks totaling approx 4GB over the time period where my flatmate downloaded a 7GB game. At times the game went at 14Mbit but must have slowed down at others as it took 2-3 hours. This was presumably when it was using slower servers for some of it.

Ergo, if you want to prevent Steam from using other content servers you need to use one of the third party tools.

Steam manager seems to be the one people are recommending atm.
