bmt: Hi johnr, I've got these figures, do they look OK?
Upstream Downstream
CurrRate(kbps) 1005 18040
MaxRate(kbps) 1005 21736
NoiseMargin(dB) 13.3 12.3
Attenuation(dB) 9.5 5.5
Power(dBm) 12.4 18.6
I can't tell if I'm on an exchange or cabinet using the Telecom site, but the map shows I am in a VDSL2 area that was completed in July 2011.
Line stats look good, the noise margin suggests you are are on Telecom Wholesale gear.
If you are getting frequent disconnections there are a number of things it could be, it's a process of elimination:
- How many phone jacks in your house?
- Do you have a dsl master filter (where the line comes into the house) or are you using plugin filters in phone jacks?
- If the later, do all phone jacks that are being used (for phone, fax or sky) have a ADSL filter plugged in?
- Do you have an alarm in the house is it connected to the phone wiring (even a supposedly inactive alarm could be still set to grab the line periodically)?
- Have you tested whether you still get disconnections when every other device is unplugged from the phone wiring (apart from the modem)?
- Can you try a different modem (borrow a mates etc) ?
If you run through the above you can rule out your end as the issue and start banging on the ISP to book a Chorus tech to come check the line at the exchange/cabinet and where it comes into your house.
