gjm: I called today and after a small chat with the first phone rep, got put through to the retention team without any hassles, just said that I was looking at swapping to 2 degrees and there $39 deal.

Came away with 300 minutes, 2500 txts, 1.25 gigs of data and 1 free best mate with $5 off my bill per month for a total of $40 for the next 2 years (although not tied in to any contract).

Was on an old iPhone plan from a few years back getting 30 minutes and 3 gigs of data but never used it.

Over all very happy with the service I received and the end result. Fast, friendly and efficient. Nice one Vodafone :)

I just signed up with 2D to move my 6 VF business mobiles over to them. I got sick and tired of getting different VF customer service reps every time I had an issue. Because of the different rep every time it always took ages to get things sorted. With 2D I have a single person (account manager) to contact, so should be a lot better!

2D gave me a couple of free S3's and a covered my VF ETC's... So I am happy, but I am just a bit worried about the 2D coverage. I have heard bad stories. (In saying that I have heard bad stories about VF too but I have had no issues).

My phones haven't yet been ported to 2D, so I wonder if I should give VF a call? Hmmm...

I manage my work mobile phones with vodafone and have had very good experiences with them over the last year. Admittedly we have about 80 connections and our own account manager but I seldom have to raise issues with him and the normal way of logging faults and getting issues sorted seems to work very well.

Cant comment on 2degrees as have never used them but some free S3's sounds nice :)

Back when I switched to 2degrees (which I did the day they announced their 50MB prepay data packs), VF charged prepay customers $1/minute(?) or so to call their (at the time) Egyptian callcentre. At the time, 2degrees answered the phone almost instantly.

Have been on 2degrees prepay ever since. Love the new $19 data(300MB)/talk(30m)/text(?) pack. Finally, after having a mobile phone for ~11 years, I actually use it to make phone calls! I refuse to spend more than $20/mo or so on my phone, this has worked out pretty well for me so far.

Our work swapped from Voda to 2D mid/late last year (about 20 connections). Yes there have been some teething issues but no problems with coverage, essentially it's the same as it was with Vodafone because wherever theres no 2D coverage it goes onto Voda. The only trouble areas will be where you're on the cusp of a 2D tower.

At the time we were saving min $750/month.

Unlimited team calling or unlimited calling plans is great!

I just spoke with someone here at NZ Post who rakes up $1500 with telecom a month! Maybe something is wrong here...

It's not even that. I was under that understanding too. But I've found 2degrees coverage isn't always wonderful - even for voice/sms. I've also found that data seems to stop working often when moving between areas - but I don't know if that's the phone or 2degrees.

On the top of this page there's something that says NZ Cell Sites Map. Check it out - Vodafone have way more sites than either 2degrees or Telecom. Probably about as many as the two of them put together. Stick in random peoples addresses and select 1km and there'll be like 3 or 4 Vodafone sites, and 1 or 2 telecom/2degree sites in some areas - but go out a bit further, and you have to select 3/4km for 2degrees to show up.

I couldn't even get any reception at all at Auckland Airport, although curiously the cell site map says there's a 2degrees cell site there.

I've *heard* that when you go out of 2Ds coverage area, it cuts the calls (while connecting to Voda coverage). i.e it is not seamless. Not from experience though.

It'll only switch if you have no coverage though - which can drop calls too. Also if you're on a call and it lasts 61 seconds then drops and you ring back - and talk for another 20 seconds - you'll be charged for 3 minutes.

Well done VF.

Have just read this thread as I too was going to change our Business Smart 45 to 2 Degrees. Took your advice, rang VF (call answered almost immediately) and asked to be transferred to the Customer Retention Department.

Transferred immediately and spoke to a wonderful woman who reinstated an extra 1gig on both phones and doubled the minutes to 200 mins. It was agreed that this will stay like this for as long as I stayed on the plan. She also suggested I could save $5 per month by going onto a twelve month contract which I accepted as this will more than take care of our needs for the next twelve months, regardless of what might come out in the interim.

Again, well done VF not only for matching 2Degrees, but more importantly for taking care of my call in a quick and professional manner.

Make sure you ask to speak to the retention team
