Depends on your ROM. If you don't have fast dormancy enabled battery life won't be as good as it should be. VF ROM's have it enabled.

Can I please ask a dumb question.
I live in New Windsor Auckland and I am 600m to a vodafone site as the crow flies and I have really poor cellphone coverage.
I have a HTC Trophy WP 7.5 and I am constantly dropping calls.
Will the new dual dual carrier help me with voice or will it only help me with Data?
The specs say 3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100
I have not seen any data or signal improvement since the weekend. In saying that, I hammer the voice and only use small amounts of data on our company web portal.

Depending on the advice I get back will depend on the next phone I ask for from the company.

Not all U900 sites are live yet around Auckland approx 150 more to go live in the coming weeks

The handset is the correct specs for the upgraded network

Edit: Just checked and New Windsor is not live yet but is coming soon and will be U900 Dual carrier

Ran my speedtest at work in Penrose, it seems that at first the Ipad didn't pick up the change, got my usual 5mbps, then ran the test again and got around 13mbps.

Upload speeds are still quite slow compared to at home at work I get 2.5-3 at home around 5

Over all I am pleased with the speeds I am getting but it is cool to say "I got 25mbps" even if in the real world of what I use the Ipad it makes no difference at all!

When I was in Chch and apparently had speeds around 24MBPS I was streaming a video on my Ipad however it seemed to stop and take ages to load before resuming, the same video streamed at home over wi-fi played seemlessly, my home connection has a speed around 5-6mbps.

I would guess the source video was bandwidth constrained at their end when you tried over 3G, or you weren't hitting a local CDN etc

So what decides wether the phone will use 2100 or 900? I've noticed in a few places, phone will sometimes show great signal, another times same spot rather low signal.

Do 2100 & 900 share the same CellID of a tower, or is it like two separate towers in one?

Thought I would chime in on this thread, in the couple of days before I got 4G going on my Xperia Z I was testing speeds at home on the upgraded Vodafone 3G network and all I can say is well done Vodafone. Its been some months since I'd used my Voda connection, and previously I was getting a rather dog poor 0.2-3Mbps download speeds with very spotty reception through my home in Mangere Bridge. Now I'm getting a range between ~9 to a high of 26Mbps and a very solid signal throughout. Superb.

It will be done when 4G / LTE goes in so 15 cities will be done by the end of the year (NZ only has 15 cities)
