Make sure you check the firmware version before upgrading. We send all modems on V13, There is no issues with slow throughput on LAN, Only over WiFi. Its the standard and something not related to our modem. (Kinda sucks)

I did check, I'm already on the lastest firmware:

Shouldn't have any issues.

Whoaaaa!
All of a sudden I can see 33/9 in speed test.
Maybe my QoS profile just got changed on VF side :D

PS. I get 33Mb down either on WiFi or Ethernet :)

TimA:
watsonash: Just signed up for Vodafone vdsl yesterday - but there is confusion so I'm half expecting to stay on vodafone ADSL (I'm on red zone at the moment).
Quick question about the hg659 though...
On my existing HG556, I was able to telnet into the router and run iptables commands even though it wasn't listed as a valid command (which I need to do to get unotelly working with my Chromecast).
Can anyone enter the busybox command line on the hg659 and see if the iptables command is valid? Hopefully busybox has been compiled with the iptables commands.
I'm still confused as to why the ATA ports on the 659 would be locked down. I've been using the ATA ports on the 556 since day 1 with 2talk - it has always worked brilliantly - maybe I need to switch to using a VOIP client on my android phones and just access the "land line" that way? Any thoughts?
Have there been any DD-WRT ports for similar Huawei models to the 659?
thanks!

DD-WRT or Open WRT, Not avaliable for the HG659, If so there are no drives, Hence no VDSL functionality. no you cant telnet like the HG556a, You only get as far as /shell into Busybox..
The VOIP ports are locked down to Vodafone as we dont support the service via another provider.

thanks - I'm not looking for any official support at all. - I'm just looking at a device which is locked down for most but the ability to have flexibility for those that would like to use it.
On the HG556 I was able to issue;
$ iptables -I PREROUTING -t nat -p udp -d 8.8.4.4 --dport 53 -j DNAT --to-destination dnsservice
$ iptables -I PREROUTING -t nat -p udp -d 8.8.8.8 --dport 53 -j DNAT --to-destination dnsservice
$ save

to add the entries to get my Chromecast to work properly. Are you saying that this functionality is not available through either the UI or the busybox console?
Oh deary me...
It looks like as soon as I get VDSL, I'll need to splash out on a router with VDSL+802ac+ATA+gb networking+flexibility (or daisy chain the existing 556) - pitty as the specs on the 659 looked so promising..
Has anyone extracted the firmware from the 659 and passed it on to the DD-WRT team for investigation?

Nothing would have changed, While DLM is on it does have a higher ping and slower throughput.

Damn. iptables would be great on the 659. My Chromecasts could do with a bit of Netflix love! I gave up on VOIP in the HG659 and bought an ATA. My home alarm is happy again.

droopanu: I was lucky. VDSL is up.
36/10. But a speedtest will only go as high as 20/2.... Hmmm.. will see if it gets better in the next few days :)

I just had my VDSL installed today. Speeds are 52/10 but I get the same result as you for the speed test, 20/2.

Speedtests were dodgy with me for the first 24 hours. Also your latency is higher than normally due to DLM packet inspecting.

WiFi it will only perform at 20Mbp/s Limited by the technology. Ethernet will be full speed.

I'm getting 33/9 now without doing anything. :)
I suggest to wait for a few hours. In my case it took about 2 hours :D

What do you mean by DLM packet inspection?

Its a line monitoring tool that runs for 7-10 days. Just adjusts your profile to get the best speed for stability.

I also had VOIP setup on the HG659 with 2Talk this morning. I configured the router for ADSL and thought I'd have a go setting up VOIP. Followed my nose using the old HG556a as a reference and bingo. Worked fine. Now that I've been switched over to VDSL, it's no longer working.

There is a really good thread here:

If nothing else the first post gives a great summary of VDSL.

Cheers.
