"3GB of data for $69.96 and then an additional 3GB for $10"

I think that might be wishful thinking - it might only be an additional 1GB for $10..  (hope I'm wrong though).

yes you are wrong as it was mentioned and confirmed by Paul. $10 for bandwidth insurance which is additional 3GB or top of the existing 3GB. please rewind and read Paul's press release info.

Correct. The "insurance" is $10 for 100% of your allocated allowance. So you pay $10 for an extra 1GB if you are on the 1GB plan, or $10 for 3GB if you are in the 3GB plan - a really good value for money.

simon14: Anyway, it's still a while until home users could really use this.... they need like 10GB and 20GB plans!!!

Hmmm, I don't think you are right there. Most people use small plans, such as 1GB/month. People using the big plans are exception to the rule.

For a lot of people 3GB is way more than they need and this includes people that uses the Internet for e-mail and a few website browsing and Trademe only.

Hardcore users need 10GB and 20GB, not mom and pop.

True, however this is changing.

A good example is my aunty, shes had her xtra subscription and email address since dialup and all she's ever done is check email and go on trademe.

Now, she is watching TVNZondemand, watching the breakfest show every lunch time (thats a good 200mb per day) and in the evenings she might also watch the news later at night.... her usage has increased from about 500mb per month to around 7GB per month just from watching tvnz via the net!!

I still think it's stupid advertising a cool new 3GB plan when they could just say its a 6GB plan... makes it sound a lot better.

simon14: What I don't get is if you can buy 3GB of data for $69.96 and then an additional 3GB for $10, wouldn't it be better to market the plan as 6GB for $79.95?

Anyway, it's still a while until home users could really use this.... they need like 10GB and 20GB plans!!!

I've had a few people who live on the road ask me about the best way to get mobile braodband... i thought about vodafone 3g and then realised it would be of no use to them considering they mostly travel out in the country.

Yes this is good, but only for city people who happen to be in 3g coverage!!

Is Vodafone planning on making the entire country 3g? Or do they only want it in cities?

Will they ever get rid of the old 2.5g network or will this be around as long as the 3g network is up?

Simon14 do you ALWAYS need to have a whinge about Vodafone?

It IS a great offer and why should they not keep the wording/bundles in line with the rest of their offers.

I personally think you're just nit picking for the heck of it.

meh, think what you want :)

Personally, i felt exactly the same about the other plans with the bundle insurance.... i don't see why they don't market the plans as 2GB and 6GB plans.

Vodafone have really pissed me off over the last year with their lies, over charging issues, extremely long wait times to CS, taking months to resolve billing issues and not accepting porting between OA to PREPAY!! I don't care if i'm 'nit picking' as you put it, as far as i'm concerned, they deserve it.

I used to love Vodafone.

:)

I think we all know about this new plan by now. So I am locking the thread before it goes too off topic.

jesseycy: There ARE unlimited data plans.   For example, http://www.three.com.hk/website/template?pageid=35220&lang=eng  I used it myself personally, and racked up to 30Gb a month....  No complaints there....

Sorry to start this again, but I was reading through some Three sites and got to this:

On their X Series offer: "Make Unlimited Skype Calls" and then in small print:

Fair Use Limit: 2,000 minutes each month
2,000 minutes is more than 1 hour a day in average of Skype calls – every day of the month. If you exceed 2,000 minutes, remaining free voice minutes will be deducted first and then thereafter charge will be calculated in accordance with the pre-selected Monthly Talk Plan

And on Three UK:

Get unlimited* internet browsing and internet email for just £5.00 per month.

 * Unlimited data usage is subject to a fair use policy of 1GB per month. It does not include using your mobile as a modem. Subscription of £5.00 per billing month.

There's no free lunch in mobile, anywhere.

Vodafone's 3GB (+ 100% insurance option for $10) is a great deal.
