sbiddle: Ahh I see where you're coming from. I assume you're on a TCL cable connection already?
I think it's still a requirement for anybody offering naked ADSL to have an active Telecom line to attach this to. There is no need to keep this Telecom line, but I think it needs to be active initially.
This has been discussed quite a few times on here in regards to Slingshot installs.
You can just still keep your TelstraClear cable connection and use a VFX VoIP connection over that, depending on your usage it's cheaper or similar in price to a Xnet Naked ADSL plan.

Awesome! I just looked into that and that sounds like a great idea. My only question is does anybody know on estimate what sort of traffic VOIP calls use? I don't use the phone line too much, but I just want to make sure that we aren't going to go way over because of to many phone calls :) Sorry - I shouldn't be getting into such a seperate discussion in this thread. Last question I promise :)
mulac: @amanzi - that's exactly what I'm looking into now. Looks like the best bet indeed, going to try to get in contact with Xnet tomorrow and get it organised. And just emailed StarBlazer for the fantastic Sky Offer :) Cheers guys

Procrastination eventually pays off.

This was not the case for us. We got naked ADSL installed by Xnet. We did not have an active Telecom line.
The trained monkies from Saturn cut the Telecom wires when we went to them for our landline so there was definitely nothing left from Telecom.
sbiddle: The issue of the wiring is something that will affect anybody who moves back from TCL to Telecom - a standard TCL install involves connecting the TCL cable to the home phone cabling inside the demarc box. If you want to move back to Telecom somebody will need to reconnect the Telecom line which will mean a van rolling to you unless you know what your doing and can do this yourself.
kiwipawl: Hi all
Anybody else think that this is what we are waitng for for the PVR's launch?
TelstraClear has begun migrating cable customers in Wellington and Christchurch to upgraded systems that could quadruple maximum download speeds to 100 megabits a second.
The company last week moved a few hundred customers in Christchurch to new network equipment that can support technology standard Docsis3 and will this week switch about a thousand customers in Wellington.
All cable customers should be on the upgraded networks by the end of June.
