Apparently there was talk about it. Also apparently Vodafone realised how much it would cost to remove the cable - as it is a condition of the rights that they have to remove the network... That's when they decided to put money into this "refresh".

But that's what I heard. It will be hard to find any supporting evidence outside the walls of the v.nue building.

I think its time Vodafone comment on the performance again, people on upgraded nodes are still experiencing terrible performance and only 4 days away from the end of the month. I just tried to play a game on a USA server where I normally ping around 150, but today at 12.30pm on a Monday I am pinging over 600. What I don't understand is once a upgrade on a node is complete, does that mean the issues should be fixed for people connecting to that node, or is there going to be some hardware switched on at the end of the month that will fix everything?

For what it's worth (and I'm sure it's not worth much to people that are still suffering through dial up speeds) my issues appear to be resolved. I got my hopes up, and then had them crushed, when my suburb appeared in the upgrade list the first time but then Dylan confirmed my node wasn't one of them... a few days later it appeared on the upgrade list and my download speeds were vastly improved, but my upload speed became awful. Fast forward a couple days, and a couple modem restarts, and my upload and download speeds are now what I'm paying for... including getting international traffic at 8MB down and 1MB up during peak hours, while also being able to browse the web at a decent speed. As I'm not much of a gamer I haven't been paying too much attention to latency, but for web browsing I'm happy.

Hey folks...

If JaniceL sends you a DM please respond. She's with Vodafone and I know they are trying to contact some users who have not replied yet.

Which game and server address are you having issues with. Can you PM me your customer number and send me a traceroute to the server (as it may not be related to the topic here) and I can have a look. Cheers

I agree with Scotty here. I am also one of the few that have not  yet had the node they are connected to upgraded with only a few days left till the end of September. But given the mixed results based on user feedback in this thread, I am not overly sure how much the speeds and overall performance will increase with the upgrades.

I just ran a speedtest off my home machine and I normally would be getting full line speeds at this time of the day but I am barely cracking 30Mbps which is a good 100Mbps off what I pay for. But I guess school holidays has a bit to do with that as well. Smokeping results to my gateway address over the last 3 hours are also showing a low of 10ms and a high of 846ms.

Well, have had the outage here in Karori WWF
and timings are looking good. 10ms ping and
downloads more than 100.

JaniceL is an absolute legend, she works on optimising our network. If you've posted a thread to Geekzone or Vodafone Community about an odd traffic route and included a traceroute, then it's magically started working again, chances are she's fixed it. :)

The other thing to remember is that school holidays have started today. So the typical usage that starts to climb at 3pm during week days and peaks at 10pm normally starts at 8am and stays like that for the whole day until the usage start climbing from 6pm.

Think of the school holidays like two very long weekends of traffic. So if your node was congested during the weekend, odd's are the usage patterns will be the same during the next two weeks.

Latency has continued to be quite poor/inconsistent. In-game, it may be 40 ms one second, and then 80+ ms the next. I ran a couple of traceroutes, and even they picked up the inconsistency.

C:\Users\Colton>tracert google.co.nz

Tracing route to google.co.nz [203.97.26.20]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms pfSenserouter.NetworkOfChampions [192.168.1.1]
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 17 ms 19 ms 30 ms lo0.internet.ivpn.pe15.telstraclear.net [218.101.61.30]
4 10 ms 14 ms 12 ms 203.97.26.2
5 16 ms 10 ms 16 ms 203.97.26.20

C:\Users\Colton>tracert 8.8.8.8

Tracing route to google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms pfSenserouter.NetworkOfChampions [192.168.1.1]
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 7 ms 13 ms 10 ms lo0.internet.ivpn.pe15.telstraclear.net [218.101.61.30]
4 16 ms 30 ms 32 ms ie2-g-0-0-0.telstraclear.net [203.98.50.2]
5 22 ms 25 ms 21 ms ge-0-2-0-1.xcore1.acld.telstraclear.net [203.98.50.251]
6 90 ms 93 ms 93 ms gi2-20.akl-grafton-bdr1.ihug.net [203.109.130.41]
7 * * * Request timed out.
8 103 ms 100 ms 102 ms UNASSIGNED.vf.net.nz [203.109.180.182]
9 83 ms 83 ms 91 ms 216.239.41.51
10 46 ms 54 ms 44 ms 216.239.41.97
11 42 ms 41 ms 43 ms google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8]

The second trace in particular is incredibly odd. I have no idea what's going on there. There are a lot of hops where the latency can more than double between one ping and the next. Things are pretty bad the very moment they leave the internal network.

Janice did get a hold of me via PM, though, and I provided some extra information. :) I'll be happy once this is sorted out for good. It seems like the last month has been a large dance of "one step forward, two steps back".

Come to think of it, I didn't even ask which specific node we were on. I guess I'll poke John as well while I'm at it...

We have / had over 12 tickets in with VF. None of them answered or called back on - about half regarding this issue at a range of client sites.

Just ran a speedtest in the hope that it has been fixed. Nope. That's with no one in the building, 200m away from Chch 4 Aves area e.g. high industry zone. We also have had no answers regarding the fact the overages on the plan are as likely to have been caused by speed issues causing packets to be dropped and resent as anything else.  Other clients with same issues - same results. No fixes in chch riccarton or central chc areas so far seen.

Don't know if it has been said but I'm so glad the government didn't accept cable as a solution for UFB.

Good to see however some users getting fixed.
