Island Bay
"100/10 Mbps" cable

Although today's speeds have been "OK" so far, I'm getting some remarkably high latency figures this evening -

Wellington 44ms, Sydney 274ms, Melbourne 599ms on OOKLA (via ethernet directly from the Cisco modem)

I'm in pretty much the same boat. Bandwidth is decent, but latency is all over the place.

Any chance you could run a couple of traceroutes to google.co.nz and 8.8.8.8? I'm curious if you have some nasty hops like the ones I saw.

Oh wow! That's really bad. You have some of those same hops that I was seeing as well, but your problem is huge right the very moment it's out of your home network. That's crazy!

Something really funky is going on. Everyone seems to be having massive latency fluctuations right on the very first external hop. Yours ranges from 8 ms to 80 ms. That's not normal.
