So is it worth throwing in VDSL and getting cable now?

It's been one night.

Give it at least a couple of weeks before you change anything major. We've had false hope before.

If things remain good? Then yes, by all means switch! Otherwise, you may find yourself on a connection that treats you worse when you most need it.

I'm sure these great speeds are just cause my family are away for the weekend :)

Current speeds in Petone, 3 attempts to get this page to load and post this - waiting for tinymce.cachefly.net... still waiting for google-analytics while typing this

That's odd that your Speedtest result has a Grade A and is faster than 87% of NZ, whereas mine is Grade A- and faster than 83% of NZ.

Is it due to the slightly lower upload speed for me?

Also in Petone.

Speedtest via Ethernet:

Speedtest via Wireless (same device):

On the 100Mbps/10Mbps plan.

That looks like a duplex issue on your Ethernet link.  The Netcomm NP805N and NF5 are prone to low-throughput on 100M Ethernet links.  I believe is fixed on the NF5 with latest firmware.

Have the images got swapped?

Ethernet has to faster than wireless - it's the rules!  smile

Don't use those routers. I use TP Link Archer C7. Will re-test via ethernet with a different cord to see if that makes a difference.

EDIT: Results--

Ethernet:

Wireless ac:

Usually I get pings around 28ms on wireless, in the past when testing my speed.

Check the router configuration and the ethernet adapter to make sure they're connected at 1Gbps full duplex. Try a different port. And try with your PC connected directly to modem, without the router.

Shall do.

It doesn't really bother me as the only devices connect via ethernet to the router are the desktop (which I rarely use), and my desktop with Linux installed (which I control via my laptop).

My laptop is connected wireless, and that's the device I've been using to do these speed tests.

EDIT: just seen the 2nd lot of speed tests I posted. The ethernet one was done via the server in Palmerston North. Don't know if that would make a major difference, though.
