All a bit of a worry really - what happens when the trickle of customers away from TCL becomes a stream, and then the whole viability of its digital TV business model gets called into question, facilitating a vicious cycle of defections. And then then the whole market belongs to Sky, and no one is better off. I thought private enterprise was supposed to fill these kind of demand-driven vacuums, supplying the customer what they want, on time! A shame really.

Well in that case, one would hope TelstraClear would learn an important lesson. But given their history, I doubt it.

By the way, no surprises that we haven't heard from TelstraClear in this thread for a long time... funny that they only show up when there's something positive to talk about - never to apologise for delays, etc.

Well this has been an interesting read. I was lucky enough to have a friend move over to Australia and leave me with 3 months of sky TV, which I've chosen to extend a few months.

What is more ironic than the freeview banner that was at the top of the page is that this announcement has caused around 5 people here alone to change to SKY.

In World Cup terms that's an 'own goal' :)

Oh well - WC kicked off, and epic delivery fail from TCL.

I wonder if they will launch a HD-PVR in time for RWC 2011, or even Brazil 2014?!?

You won't need one for Rugby World Cup 2011, because you should already have signed up for MySkyHDi. Best decision of the year for me so far :)

I had to laugh at the weekend after receiving another email from TCL extolling the virtues of their impending release of the HD DVR - follow the link to the website and it says "soon" - FAIL - again.

I wonder if we will see Steve Jackson or the CEO of TCL fishing and apologising for how they misled the public over their capabilities and delivery of a core service.

Sign up for MySkyHDi for a year and maybe go back to TCL if they have their act together - presumably they can get the box working before this year is out!

Translation TCL 2 weeks away = at least 2 months away

I know there were talks about whether the HD ticket was required to view TV1, TV2 and TV3.

Well I can confirm this is not the case, only the Homemedia T-Box is required.

I posted in this thread http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=44&topicid=40296) that the release was realistically late 2010 and this was pooh poohed.

The time frame I posted is looking quite realistic now.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I think they still have a long way to go, I visited the Christchuch office to check out the homemedia only to find they still havn't managed to get EPG working for TV1,2 and 3. (that was a couple weeks back)

They still can't fix the basic functions, so don't hold your breath that they will have a working version by the end of the year, it doen't help that they have laid off most of their technical staff either.
